Jim Webb went to the White House last September. The Virginia senator was meeting with the president to discuss Guantanamo detainees. The conversation soon shifted to healthcare. "I told him this was going to be a disaster," Webb recalls...

This independent problem returns Democrats to their white problem. Most non-aligned voters are white. White males constitute the plurality of independents. These are the Reagan Democrats. Webb does not see himself as their spokesman. But he is one of the few Democrats able to speak as one of them.

Jim Webb is a giant load of macaca.
From your keyboard, to God's ears, but the GOP has managed to lose them a number of times, IIRC, usually while they try to assuage moderates.
There is, too, a such animal as Reagan Democrats. Don’t delude yourself just because none of the major pollsters recognize them.
I thought that if the GOP did better in the Senate, that they would try to flip him, crossing the rats. I think he'll walk away. If he did an Arlen Specter, he'd probably be primaried.
but the GOP has managed to lose them a number of times,
I say it’s because the Tea Party stood up to the Establishment.
I can’t count how many intelligent people I know who say it’s all fixed, there’s no difference between the parties,
and this year they saw conservatives take down fat RINO cows.
We HAVE to keep doing what the independents like, keep them voting. Not just for our own satisfaction and conscience, but to keep the indies with us.
I was going to post some of the numerous emails I have received from Webb’s office but its the same ol’ thing (e.g. “We are working to strengthen the health care legislation”). Trust me. I wrote Webb, Warner, and Connolly’s offices many times and made numerous telephone calls. It’s the same ol’ lies.
You are right in one respect, there are Reagan Democrats. But they are in the Tea Party movement, not in Congress.
Reagan Democrats wouldn’t have voted for the Insurance Bill.
Seems like a Reagan Dem from Virginny votes the same way on things as a socialist from Vermont (Sanders)does...
Do a search on the term. Keep the quotation marks. They were probably rats at the time. A lot of them are probably independents now that the rats are hard left.
I’m changing his name to Jim “Obamacare” Webb.
It is no wonder the paleo Conservative rag, 'the American Conservative,' endorsed him for President.
Hopefully, we'll be rid of this evil con artists by 2012
LLS
Jim Webb is a communist. Done.
Well, I did write that in a fit of blinding anger and unreasonable rage at the mention of the name of Jim Webb. :O)
Webb is not what I would classify as a “Reagan Democrat” nor do I believe you will find any Reagan Democrats in Congress. As some of the articles suggest, a “Reagan Democrat” would never have allowed themselves to vote for abortion in a health care bill, or amass the deficit without finding some way to pay for it, or voted for this health care bill without reading it.
What you saw in this election were the “Reagan Democrats” moving towards the Republicans through the Tea Party movement. That is the only explanation of Republicans winning Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, etc. If the Republicans fail to bend to the will of the Tea Party, they will lose them again but it wouldn’t surprise me to see another party arise that is focus on fiscal constraint.
Jim Webb is positioning himself for the next election.
Webb will switch parties...but VA is smart enough to defeat him with a true Republican....
We took down the left, now we have to take down the left media.
Amen. He’s a piece of walking excrement. Nothing “moderate” about this pinko.
To understand Webb you have to read his book, Born Fighting” about the Scots who settled in America.
It clearly outlines his admiration for his own Scots forbears who would proudly wear the appellation of ‘redneck’.
I think his lower-class oe blue-collar populism is based on his feelings and beliefs about their problems with the American elite and being largely excluded from the fruits of a society they helped build and died for.
