More Utahns want Sen. Orrin Hatch replaced than want to see him re-elected to another six-year term, according to a Salt Lake Tribune poll of likely voters conducted the week before Tuesdays vote.
The survey noted that Hatch isnt up for re-election until 2012, but asked if the vote were held today, would voters back him or someone else? Forty percent of likely voters would give him a seventh term, while 48 percent say they were inclined to favor another candidate. Twelve percent remained unsure. The poll, conducted by Washington, D.C.-based Mason-Dixon Polling & Research, Inc. had a margin of error of 4 percentage points.
Hatch who knows hes a potential target by tea party Republicans on the right and someone like Democratic Rep. Jim Matheson on the left is confident past supporters will return to the fold.

Your right!! It is the Byrd seat.
Or he could be primaried by dissatisfied conservatives.
It is long past time to replace 75 year old Hatch with younger person...the same rule can be made across the entire legislative world in Washington.
So, if the Mormons in Utah vote against Hatch, you and the rest of America will acknowledge them as Christians. Or is that just a first step?
orin needs to retire to delaware... first state of communism.
LLS
If I remember correctly, Hatch voted for the DREAM Act. He won’t be missed.
Jason Chaffetz, please pick up the white courtesy phone...
Hatch should have left of his own volition long ago.
Since he doesn’t intend to leave voluntarily, he will have to be run out of town on a rail.
So be it.
I’m already looking forward to the 2012 primaries with anticipation.
The key part is he's been there so long and feels entitled. Once that entitlement mentality sets in, so does the rotting process.
Time to retire, Orrin, one way or t'other.
You’re right, but even though he will probably act like a conservative for now, Joe Manchin, the guy who won that senate seat this time, still needs to be defeated in 2012. If Manchin gets re-elected in 2012, who knows what type of democrat he will be.
With all those other democrats and RINOs on the list that need to go, plus the presidential race, we will be very busy in 2012.
