Now, I know full well that it's still better to have elected Paul rather than the alternative and I know that the Daily Caller is a RINO organ that hates the guts of the Tea Party and AP is a bunch of pro-terrorist SOBs who'd love to spread division and quarrels among conservatives BUT:

if this is true we have another libertarian who doesn't understand the proper role of government and the fallacy of cutting military expenditures, all the more at this time with the Afghan situation, to balance the budget. Secondly, amendment on balancing budget HOW? By cutting the armed forced down to size in the era of Bin Laden and Ahmadinejad? And one could "balance budgets" by increasing the fiscal pressure, and that is NOT the constitutional way to balance budgets.

I repeat: I could be wrong, and I would like to read the full text of Paul's statements, but I do hope he's not turning into his lunatic father. Compromise with the Dhimmicrats my @§§

I do think that our allies should contribute more to their own defense and rely less on the U.S.

Cut whatever needs to be cut.

It would seem defense should be way down on the list, though.

This doesn’t look good, given the fact that it’s coming from Paul.

Congressman Paul will soon learn when he gets to DC that he is one of 100. He’s not alone. There are other GOP that will steer him in the right direction.

So is cutting the military the first specific suggestion for budget cuts from Rand? If so, we have another fruitcake from the Paul dynasty.

My experience as an Air Force Civil Engineering structural planner, having worked closely with supply squadrons and appropriations units, tells me that there are $$billions that could be trimmed off waste in the armed forces without touching vital defense systems of numbers of personnel.

Easiest way to cut the military budget is to stop fighting wars.

Except that in some situations, we don’t get to choose when or if we can fight or not. And this is one of those times.

The GOP should simply do across-the-board cuts in spending, regardless of the department or program. 5%, 10%, 20% - whatever figure they go with - will have to be the approach. They cannot sit around quibbling over one department being cut drastically vs. others not being touched. In the end, nothing would be accomplished. It will be harder for Dems to make the case that the GOP is being "unfair" in their approach to cutting spending when the percentage of cuts is equal. If the military faces cuts, so be it. I'm sure they can find some deadwood in any department, including the DOD.

The rotten apple doesn’t fall far from the rotten tree.

What amazes me is that a state like Kentucky, which contains a large military base and therefore many military families, voted this libertarian poser into the Senate.
