Christians ‘on verge of extinction’ in Iraq, Muslim leader warns

A Muslim leader is calling on the Iraqi government and US-led forces to step up their efforts to protect the Christian minority in Iraq from extinction.

Navaid Hamid, Secretary of the South Asian Council for Minorities (SACM) and a Muslim, said the deadly attack last weekend on a church in Baghdad was a heinous crime that should be strongly condemned by the international community.

“With the murderous attack, the safety of Iraq’s Christian minority has become critical and it is the prime responsibility not only of the regime in Baghdad but also that of the allied forces led by [the] US to restore confidence and provide safety because never in the history of Iraq, minorities were so vulnerable [sic],” he said.

Around 58 people are believed to have died when al-Qaeda linked militants stormed the Our Lady of Salvation Church in Baghdad and opened fire on the congregation.

Hamid said Christians in Iraq were “paying a high price” for their faith and living in fear because of the “unprecedented” levels of violence against them.

“It is a fact that they are on the verge of extinction in Iraq,” he said.

Only thing is, atheists have a little thing called self preservation, which is their God... they would happily concede to Islam and pretend to believe if not really believe, if only to preserve their own skin.

The wisest course of action is to relocate Christians out of Iraq and possibly the entire Middle East. Certainly, many of these people are reluctant to leave, as they consider themselves both Arabs and Iraqis. And, of course, many own property or are aged and reluctant to begin life in a strange, new society. Many feel they have endured repression before and can do so again, but the trials to come will be far more severe than anything they can imagine. They should be reminded of another religious minority. Many Jews considered themselves Germans and were reluctant to leave Germany, even if a refuge could have been found for them. Some means must be found to convince Christians that Iraq and the entire Middle East must be evacuated before another tragedy occurs, and it certainly will occur, regardless of the assurances of states in the area.

With some careful planning, a quiet operation could be put together to kill 580 Muslims Sunnis or Shias in return. Make it a teachable moment.
