I don’t remember the picture either, but apparently it was an issue because he didn’t land and meet people on the ground.
Which seems to me to have been the correct decision. During the confusion and devastation, who wants to deal with all that comes with a POTUS visit at that time?
Of course I have absolutely zero political savvy so YMMV.
I laugh every time I see a politician walk around a disaster scene "on the ground". They always have on the fake outdoorsy outfit, picked out by their handlers and fresh off the rack. Their head swivels around slowly taking in the scene, although they have no idea what they are looking at, or the first thing they would need to do to help out. Then in the pre-selected area with all cameras pointing at them, they proclaim how "I" will make things better.
The best thing politicians can do in a disaster is stay the heck out of the way so the professionals can do their jobs. Bush did the right thing at Katrina and he should stop apologizing for it.
“I dont remember the picture either, but apparently it was an issue because he didnt land and meet people on the ground.”
Correct. He did get on the ground with Blanco and Nagin within 48 hours of this, but the media had their
‘narrative’ and they pushed it beyond the realm of truth.
Bush was caring, involved and on top of the matter, but the media pushed their story that was the opposite.
