Christine O’Donnell Fires Back at GOP on "Today Show"

NEW YORK, NY – Former recent Delaware senatorial candidate and Tea Party favorite Christine O'Donnell took a bold stance in a pointed interview on NBC's “Today Show.”

Host Meredith Veiera challenged Ms. O'Donnell with a litany of tough questions, asking if Sarah Palin failed her and if Ms. O'Donnell’s principled campaign cost the GOP seats in her election and others down ballot. Undaunted, O'Donnell fired back at the Delaware and national GOP establishment with the truth behind the campaign.

O'Donnell explained how GOP insiders maneuvered to undermine her campaign from day one. According to O'Donnell, the beltway political class joined forces with the Delaware GOP to silence the voice of the people. In O'Donnell’s view, it was not her insistence on principle which caused her loss, but the refusal of the political ruling class to fully support her, who could not forgive O'Donnell for soundly defeating their hand-picked, establishment candidate - Mike Castle - in the primary, O'Donnell continued. Castle never did endorse O'Donnell upon her win, which is an unusual public rebuke, even after a rancorous primary.

Without party backing, O'Donnell’s campaign claims they had to build the get out the vote effort from scratch in just six short weeks, ultimately costing her the election. O'Donnell told Veiera, however, the backroom machinations went much farther. Washington D.C. political insiders undermined her campaign, including Karl Rove, Vice President and former Delaware Senator Joe Biden, and according to some even the White House.

Faced with such powerful foes, O'Donnell remained committed to what she described as "giving a voice to the voiceless." Standing up for the political interests of everyday Delawareans, like the farmers and workers who make the state great. She concluded the interview, assuring Delaware that she will continue her fight to represent small government, lower taxes, and the traditional values that make America strong.

“Without party backing, O’Donnell’s campaign claims they had to build the get out the vote effort from scratch in just six short weeks...”

Well, ain’t that the truth. Tokyo Rove and the rest of his RINOs did all they could to destroy O’Donnell.

Then we here on FR had a platoon of traitors, agent provocateurs and butt kissing RINOs to pile on to destroy O’Donnell.

Let me state one thing: your names have been recorded and you won’t be hanging around here on FR too much longer. Enjoy your membership, toads. You’re going down.

ZAP!!

I agree. Time for her to display some substance and go quietly. She lost.

And since Ms ODonnell has no other abilities it seems then to be a professional candidate for public office

She said she was exploring a possible book thing. Heck she’ll be on the book tour before long. Maybe just in time to follow Bush who’s getting his kicked off next week or so. Money has to be made..

Please.....

Barney Frank is a professional candidate for public office as are about 535 other folks who actually did manage to get elected or reelected the other day.

O’Donnell made a good stand for herself with Greta and on her commercials and other interviews. I’ll concede that the “I’m not a Witch” ad was ill conceived, but that was more reactionary to a series of ridiculous assaults that managed to unravel her campaign a bit.

She is absolutely correct when she says that the back room machinations helped do her in.

As for her being immature....well lets us all be informed when you get up the stones to run for office.

OK?

I promise to not to call you names.

Go away ODonnell!! She is an immature lady who comes off as such

So you would have preferred that lying, taxing, Harry's pet, balded marxist, creep Coons to this wonderful, decent, christian, conservative candidate Christine O'Donell? Hello?

Limbaugh spent several minutes today strongly criticizing the Republican elite for not backing tea partiers, using O’Donnell as his main example.

Let’s not forget this one simple fact. The majority voters in Delaware are a bunch of leftist a-holes! Coons is a creep extroadinaire and they elected him anyway. COD can hold her decent head up with dignity—she is gold and the pet Coons is trash.

Reposted from another thread:

You are correct in your analysis. COD is not going away anytime soon and her fans within the movement will rally behind her making it a litmus test of sorts, as if it is only possible to support fiscal conservatism by supporting this women, and rabidly attack anyone who disagrees.

I think what happened needs to be viewed in the context of the current political landscape. Right now the formula is a new face (or at least new to the movement) challenges a democrat and an establishment GOP person.

Then:
(1)They get alot of hype online and via the usual sources (Rush, FOX, etc.)
(2)They come out with some hard hitting messages about Obama/Pelosi/Reid and the debt and healthcare and such.
(3)Then they are attacked somehow by the media usually on personal matters (Palin’s baby for example) but sometimes gaffes (Angle’s hispanic/asian comment).
(4)Then the conservative base rallies around them and carries them to victory to the horror of Democrats.

So in COD case people, largely from out of state who did not know her, were introduced and simply thought to apply the formula. They saw a pretty lady talking bad about the state of washington so they thought this was the next Palin/Bachmann. No one bothered to check into her background as a professional political campaigner, the lawsuits, living off campaign money, the poor financial situation, odd personal history. They didn’t think they needed to as COD was saying all the pick up lines to get the Tea Party to fall in love. When CODs gaffes came out (ignorance about the constitution and supreme court, weird personal statements) people just chalked it up to step 3 and assumed that step 4 would follow as this was supposed to be a tidal wave election.

When this failed to happen many in the movement who have internalized COD as being one of us want to defend her and will attack anyone for perceived betrayal. Look at this thread for instance. Lots of comments about “COD has conservative principles damnit! Don’t you like conservatives?” with no proof at all for any of that. Palin was mayor then governor in Alaska. She can point to things she has done when asked to prove she is a conservative. Scott Brown could point to things and say he is a conservative (which for someone in Massachusetts he is). Angle could point to things and say she is a conservative. COD? Not really. Sure she is a social conservative but I don’t really see signs for abortion and abstinence only education at the rallies. Everyone is focused on fiscal issues right now and COD’s fiscal reputation is troubling.

The problem we have now is that people have dug in and assume like with Palin that skeptics will come around and her reputation will somehow soar. The difference is Palin is a very smart politician and COD is a walking gaffe machine. The movement has already damaged itself by jumping in to bed with her without really thinking it through.

We should make it very clear that COD is not an accurate representation of our movement which is a perception that Democrats will attempt to solidify amognst moderates (aka the people you can’t win the white house without). The good news is that this should be easy to accomplish as more and more people look into her history without an impending election. Instead of COD vesus Democrat with the “us vs them”/”vote the bastards out” thought process people can look at it with a “what does she bring to the table for us” mentality. Then they will find they do not like what they see and don’t want to have this bizzare* woman as a face of the movement at all.

* = my sincerest apologies to anyone on this site who is unmarried 41 year old woman, who don’t believe in masturbation, lives off campaign money and used to have picnics with witches on satanic altars.

6 Months? Are you kidding? Never again. All donations go to indivual candidates or specific PACs.

Did anyone notice that even Bob Dole endorsed her, and had donated to her campaign as much as possible for her? He had a lot of praise for her! I guess he had been in the hospital, and was going to have surgery, but he still said he supported her very much! I hadn’t read about him for a long time, and wondered what/how he was doing now.

When CODs gaffes came out...

See post 28 re:mice with fully functioning human brains.

No wonder she got creamed by 17 points. I'm surprised it wasn't much more.

“At some point, being a bad candidate counts for more, especially in a 17 point blowout.”

Agreed. We need to learn the lesson about flaky and undisciplined candidates if we are to be successful in 2012.
We need more Rubios, Johnsons and Toomeys, not Bucks, ODonnells and Angles.

I think a 17 point loss is more than just “Karl Rove/Establishment GOP” type effect. At some point, being a bad candidate counts for more, especially in a 17 point blowout.

Would she have won with support from Castle and Rove? Perhaps not.

She certainly lost after Rove trashed her right after she won the primary.

Christine was right about the Constitution. Nothing about Separation of Church and State there. Check it out.

Yeah, she probably would have lost by 13 - rather than 17 - points if Rove and Castle were quiet.

This loss wasn’t about Rove or “establishment Republicans”, it was about a bad candidate, period. Rove and Krauthammer and a few others called it correctly - she had no chance of winning because she was a bad candidate, not because she was a “conservative bucking the establishment”.
