Olbermann suspended indefinitedly by MSNBC
The Washington Post ^ | November 5, 2010 | Emi Kolawole

Keith Olbermann has been suspended indefinitely from MSNBC for making campaign contributions to three Democrats.

Phil Griffin, president of MSNBC:

I became aware of Keith's political contributions late last night. Mindful of NBC News policy and standards, I have suspended him indefinitely without pay. Read the MSNBC policy on campaign donations.

MSNBC host Keith Olberman made campaign contributions to Democrats, one of whom appeared on his program, "Countdown with Keith Olbermann."

Olbermann donated the maximum allowable amount to failed Democratic Senate candidate Jack Conway in Kentucky and Reps. Raul Grijalva and Gabrielle Giffords in Arizona. Olbermann donated to the Arizona lawmakers on Oct. 28 - the same day Grijalva appeared on Olbermann's show. Grijalva won another term, while Giffords appears to be leading in her race for re-election. Conway lost his Senate bid to Rand Paul.

In a statement to Politico, Olbermann said, "One week ago, on the night of Thursday October 28 2010, after a discussion with a friend about the state of politics in Arizona, I donated $2,400 each to the reelection campaigns of Democratic Representatives Raul Grijalva and Gabrielle Giffords. I also donated the same amount to the campaign of Democratic Senatorial candidate Jack Conway in Kentucky." Olbermann went on to say he "did not privately or publicly encourage anyone else to donate to these campaigns, nor to any others in this election or any previous ones, nor have I previously donated to any political campaign at any level."

The news comes in the wake of Olbermann's harsh criticism of Fox News parent company News Corp., which donated to Republican-leaning groups. MSNBC president Phil Griffin also issued an open challenge in light of the News Corp. donations, saying to The New York Times in October, "Show me an example of us fundraising."

When did NBC establish standards?

Okay this is weird. He gets canned for making campaign donations? I don’t see this as anyones business really unless, it is in a contract.

Now if they would have told the truth and said he was canned for the election night broadcast of a joke with Matthews and Maddow-this makes sense. But I guess that sounds funny so they pulled this reason out of their butts.

STARWISE; penelopesire; SE Mom; hoosiermama; kcvl; Senator Goldwater

http://hillbuzz.org/2010/11/05/you-know-this-isnt-about-political-donations-right/

MSNBC and flagship NBC were acquired by Comcast this summer.

GE was their former owner.

GE used the TV networks as loss leaders to promote other GE interests…from putting GE appliances into every kitchen on every sitcom on the network to using popular show to subtly promote “green technology” GE wanted to push to make millions.

Obama promised GE huge windfalls of tax dollars if GE became his propaganda arm.

Obama largely did to GE what he did to Princess Caroline of Kennedy and other fools who believed in him and screwed them over.

Comcast is a TV network that only wants to make money as a TV network.

Keith Olbermann is one of the reasons MSNBC makes no money.

He is probably the biggest misogynist ever to be seen on television.

He is also one of the people who loudly called anyone not supporting Obama racists.

Remember that enemies’ list the Clintons have – THE LIST ?

Olbermann is in the top five slots to receive payback for what he did on Obama’s behalf.

So Maddow and Matthews better stop being shills for Obama or they may be next.

This might be a clause in his contract that would allow them to get rid of him. Sooner or later someone at MSNBC has to answer to the stock holders about low ratings and therefore declining profitability and revenue.
This might give them the out on their contract they have been looking for.

It is ironic that MSNBC has been providing free campaign advertising for Obama and other leftist for years.

He’s one of my least favorite people on the planet but this seems unfair to me...if the stated reason is what’s *really* behind this action. It doesn’t make sense considering that he doesn’t claim to be unbiased. On the contrary, isn’t it his job to be vocal about his biases? I thought that’s what they were paying him for. Maybe they were just looking for an “out” so they used what amounts to a technicality to put him aside.

Polls have consistently shown that 80-90% of all “journalists” are hard-core democrat supporters and/or leftists.

There’s nothing to hide.

There’s no pretense to maintain.

Send a note to Comcast, the soon-to-be new owner of MSNBC giving your support to this decision:

I agree. What is the difference in shilling for candidates, night after night, versus giving them money?

The policy does not make sense looking at it that way.
