WASHINGTON Self-proclaimed tea party leader Michele Bachmann's bid for a top Republican post in the House received a cool reaction Thursday from Speaker-to-be John Boehner, an early test of how GOP leaders will treat the antiestablishment movement's winners in Tuesday's elections.
"Constitutional conservatives deserve a loud and clear voice in leadership!" Bachmann, R-Minn., who founded the Tea Party Caucus, said in a one-paragraph Facebook announcement that she is running for GOP conference chairman.
House Republican leaders don't disagree. But that doesn't mean they want the hyperbolic Bachmann being a spokeswoman for the new majority during the 2012 election cycle.
Boehner, aware of the role tea partiers played in making him the next House speaker, is endorsing no one. His lieutenants are lining up behind Rep. Jeb Hensarling of Texas, leaving no doubt that Hensarling and not Bachmann is the leadership favorite to chair the GOP conference.
"There are few who have done as much for the Republican team as Jeb," the expected House majority leader, Eric Cantor of Virginia, said in a statement.

I don’t know anything about Jeb Hensarling so I’ll leave him alone but Boehner talking about supporting him because of what he’s done for the “team” is far from immpressive. I’ve seen how the team treats those who put doing the right thing over team interests.
**But . . . deep down, in our heart of hearts, we knew that they would.
Just as we know that the GOP must eventually be abandoned, and left to die of irrelevance, or to merge with its hardier twin.
It is the less leftist liberal party, and the less massive big government party. The GOPs principal virtue is that its vices are more timid than the Democrats.**
Amen!! I wish I could believe that the GOP will now wake up, but I don’t.
“House Republican leaders don’t disagree. But that doesn’t mean they want the hyperbolic Bachmann being a spokeswoman for the new majority during the 2012 election cycle.”
Careful people, this is AP and Boehner never said that.
I read the article & didn’t see anything Boehner said that would indicate he’s against her in a leadership position. Did I miss something? I realize the AP states it as fact, but I’m sorry, unless I hear a clip or read a direct quote from Boehner himself I’m not going to take their word for it. I call BS on this article.
The hell with Speaker of the House. I say run for President. Sure she would make a great speaker but she’d make an even better President.
Note to John B...if you did not get the message in 2010...you will surely get it in 2012...the Tea Party is not going away. And if the GOP won’t go along for the ride a third party will be created at some point and Bhoener will become a WHIG.
There goes the AP, turning a straight news piece into opinion by labeling Bachmann as “hyperbolic”.
Those dirty, rotten, sorry, low-down, moronic, ignorant — !! They’d better think twice — then think AGAIN! They reject Michelle and they as much as TELL the Tea Party to get the #+!! out of the Party — to ride at the back of the bus!
I DON’T THINK SO, Mr. Boehner! NOT ANYMORE! WE BRUNG YOU!

Then tell my WHY are all the establishment Republicans lining up for leadership..? We don’t..won’t have one in there in a major leadership position that strongly is/was a Tea Party backer-leader (or real conservative). The one we would have Mike Pence is resigning from leadership (will still be in Congress) with not as much influence/power.
“The GOP needs the Tea Party, but the Tea Party does not need the GOP.”
So true - but it doesn’t seem like they want to accept that.
The dust hadn’t even settled when the loud mouths of the Republican party were dissing the Tea Party, saying that their candidates didn’t do all that well. I was spittin’ nails!
Well, excuse me RNC/GOP hacks, you need to listen up:
In case you don’t realize, the Tea Party is a movement made up of everyday Americans and it is not a political party. But be assured, it is a force to be reckoned with because it is **We* *The* *People**!!!
And We The People are sick to death of our Constitution being trampled on - tired of our liberties being held hostage by a dangerous screwball regime - and we looked for someone to speak up and slap them down, and there’s the good old GOP telling us to calm down and send money - and the other side is spewing its vileness - all while this great nation is teetering on the brink of disaster!
And furthermore, GOP dissers, it was the Tea Party working all across this country that preceded that tsunami you just experienced, not just in a handful of races, so don’t even try with your nonsense.
This is not the end of the bloodbath, oh no, it’s the beginning. You can either join with us as we continue to bludgeon the corrupt bastards [believe me, it’s the only way] or stand aside and let us handle it!
That's no fun. Fulminating is fun.
So why all the vitriol here against Boehner?
Sometimes FR is just wacko.
Might want to educate yourself on Michele Bachmann and report back to us.
btt
So Boehner isn’t endorsing anyone in a battle of 2 conservatives. Can someone tell me why I should be mad cause I’m not seeing it. If you rad the article you’ll see Pence supports Hensarling too.
why bother? seriously.
Boehner isn’t quoted in the whole article. It’s Cantor that talked about the team.
