Christopher Hitchens on Revival of religion in Russia

The only person who seems to be paying attention to this phenomonon of the rising influence of Christianity in Russia is ironically Christopher Hitchens, author of God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything

The Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life recently invited brothers Christopher and Peter Hitchens to address the question of whether civilization needs God.

Here is what Mr. Hitchens had to say about Religion in Russia today:

"The second of the two empires that took part in this hecatomb of civilization in the name of their own religion, I mean the Russian one, shows real signs also of imperial nostalgia. No one here, I suppose, will have forgotten the moment when George Bush first met Vladimir Putin, who had chosen for the day to decorate his chest with his grandmother’s ornate Russian Orthodox crucifix, enough for the president to be convinced and to say that just to look into those beautiful limpid eyes was enough to see that he was a person of deep spirituality and sensitivity.

No, it's not good. Russia is claiming to denounce its communist past, but is putting into place a government every bit as dictatorial as the Soviet one, and is using an insincere embrace of "Christianity" as an excuse for rejecting Western ideas of democracy and human rights.

Note: I am not criticizing Christianity. I am criticizing Russian tyrants who mouth Christian platitudes while enslaving their own people.

The Russian pendulum is executing one of its characteristic periodic swings back from the Westernizers to the Slavophiles.

No, its good, and only way to beat liberalism and Sorosizm.

“Western ideas of democracy and human rights” are presented in Russia by Soros and his gay-rightists and other morons.
So 99% of Russians see Western World as Islam-Gayizm-Sorosizm infected realm.

one upon time, there WERE Western democracy and human rights, but now as Russians and allmost all of Orthodox nations see them- infected and mortally ill and thus present danger to Christianity, conservative way of live and Christian way of life.

West WAS role-model, but not anymore

Russia is denouncing communist past and going back to Christianity.

Then why does your boy KGB Putin continue beefing up the militaries of communist dictatorships throughout Latin America, including Chavez and the Castro bros? And why have they held 3 sets of joint war games with the Chi Coms? Why do they still back North Korea?

From the Russian News and Information Agency:
July 27, 2006
"'I am determined to expand relations with Russia,' Chavez, known as an outspoken critic of what he calls the United States' unilateralism, told the Russian leader, adding that his determination stemmed from their shared vision of the global order.":

We are creating a new world, a balanced world. A new world order, a multipolar world,” Chavez told reporters during a visit to Communist China, one of many. His “new world order” includes [RUSSIA], China, Iran,... and a significantly weakened United States, he explained.

The two sides [Democratic People's Republic of Korea and Russia] agreed to "promote and enhance friendly relations" in line with the joint declaration of July 19, 2000 and the Russia-DPRK friendship and good neighborly cooperation treaty of February 9, 2000.

Putin and Kim agreed during their talks to promote a Russian- DPRK political dialogue on the Korean issue and international affairs, and discussed many topical international problems, deputy head of the Russian presidential administration Sergei Prikhodko told reporters following the talks.

The two leaders spoke for an independent and peaceful solution to the issue of reunification of the Korean Peninsula, and against "any outside obstacles to this process" as "unacceptable."

Did Communism Fake Its Own Death in 1991?
American Thinker ^ | January 16, 2010 | Jason McNew

In a bizarre 1984 book [New Lies for Old], ex-KGB Major Anatoliy Golitsyn predicted the liberalization of the Soviet Bloc and claimed that it would be a strategic deception. ..."

"Golitsyn's argument was that beginning in about 1960, the Soviet Union embarked on a strategy of massive long-range strategic deception which would span several decades and result in the destruction of Western capitalism and the erection of a communist world government."

"Golitsyn published his second book, The Perestroika Deception, after the Soviet Union was dissolved in 1991. This book contained further analysis of the liberalization, in addition to previously classified memoranda submitted by Golitsyn to the CIA. The two books must be read together to get a complete picture of Golitsyn's thesis."

Christopher Hitchens is a chronically unhappy man. We do not need him or anyone to worry about Russia's Christianity. We do need to worry about our own lack of Christianity and where it is leading us as a nation (Culture of Death). Lack of acknowledging the role of God will lead to conquest by a nation that does believe in God (such as Islam), and/or utter economic collapse.

Maybe we should learn to speak Russian.

The communists coopted the Orthodox Church as an engine of Russian nationalism starting with Stalin himself.

And the Russian Church is no friend of other Christian denominations. Ask any missionary.

“Russia is denouncing communist past and going back to Christianity.”

No, I don’t think that Putin and Medvedev are directing the building of hundreds of new church buildings for pious reasons. They’re doing it for control.
