The El Paso Times (FR prohibited from posting anything but title and link) has a better story but does not mention their immigration status. Whether they were US citizens or not, they lived with their family in Juarez and commuted to UTEP where both were in the business college.

2 UTEP students slain in Juárez

At work we have one lady whose immediate family lives in El Paso except for a sister and her mother who live in Juarez. They have not seen each other for some period time as those in El Paso are fearful of traveling to Juarez and those in Juarez can not come to El Paso. It's like there is a mini-Berlin wall down there with the drug runners substituting for the East German guards.

Closer to home, the brother of one of our employees was killed the other night in a fight. Drugs or alcohol were probably a reason (info is being withheld as the case is investigated and the suspect sought.)
