Poll: GOP candidates top Obama in hypothetical 2012 race
CNN ^ | 11/04/10

Washington (CNN) -- His party got its clock cleaned in Tuesday's midterm elections, but President Barack Obama still remains competitive in some hypothetical 2012 presidential election matchups, especially against Sarah Palin, a new poll shows.

A CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey released Thursday also indicates that at the unofficial start of the race for the Republican presidential nomination, the field of possible contenders appears wide open with no front-runner.

Twenty-one percent of Republicans say they would most likely support 2008 GOP White House candidate and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee for their party's 2012 presidential nomination, according to the poll.

The number is 20 percent for another 2008 Republican presidential hopeful, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

Fourteen percent say they support Palin, the former Alaska governor and 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee, with 12 percent backing former House Speaker Newt Gingrich of Georgia.

The remaining candidates, whose names were all in single digits, are led by Rep. Ron Paul of Texas, who also ran for the GOP presidential nomination the last time around, followed by Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, Rep. Mike Pence of Indiana, and former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania.

The poll's release comes as Santorum visits New Hampshire to give a speech about the midterm election results and the future of the Republican party. No one has yet to announce a bid for the GOP nomination.

In a possible general election showdown, Obama leads Palin 52-44 percent among all registered voters.

“After seeing him perform during the oil spill, I’d love to see Jindal run.”

I also admire Jindal. However, I do not believe he can run for President because as far as I know his parents were not American citizens when Jindal was born. So although Bobby Jindal was born in America and is an Anerican citizen, he is not a “natural born” citizen.

I’m beginning to think that the “I love her, but” crowd need their own club.

The “I Love Her But” folks could have their own flag, T-shirts that read—”I Love her But”, campaign/protest signs and even a secret handshake.

Heck, if you folks start your own fund, you might even be able to get your own “I Love her But” bus to cruise the country in. Way cool, huh.

I’m getting excited about just how happy the “I Love her But” crowd is going to be during 2012.

I sure hope that you’re carful with the spelling though, some folks just wouldn’t agree with an “I Love her Butt” spelling.

Today is my 38th wedding anniversary. I love that beautiful woman today as much, and even more, than I loved her 39 years ago when we first met. She remains “my only fantasy”. In all those years I never once said, “I love you but”. However, I do admit that on more occasions than I can remember, I have told her, “I love your butt”.

Perhaps I just look at life differently, because I love Palin, have full faith in her and look forward in her becoming our President.

However, he was born to parents who were not US citizens at the time, iirc. I think they were in the US on student visas.

That makes his “natural born” status questionable.

The only possible candidates mentioned in the story that I can vote for without holding my nose are Palin and Ron Paul. I would support Demint, Bachmann, Steve King, Rubio, or even Jindal. Palin/Rubio sure looks like an appealing ticket for many reasons. You get a woman on top of the ticket (that’s what she said) and a latino who happens to be from the all-important swing state of Florida. Palin/Rubio would win easily.

It would be cool to some day have...

Amy Carter/Chelsea Clinton vs Jenna Bush/Barbara Bush.

I could only endorse Jenna and Barbara in that race if they promise to pick Meghan McCain as Secretary of State.

"Sarah Palin supports Cap & Trade? (which she derides as Cap and TAX). Link please???"

She derides it with words now, but has supported the concept with action when she was the Governor of Alaska. It was in 2007 that she issues Executive Order 238 Establishing the Alaska Climate Change Sub-Cabinet http://www.gov.state.ak.us/admin-orders/238.html Number 13, under Purpose and Duties reads: "the opportunities for Alaska to participate in carbon-trading markets, including the offering of carbon sequestration" That is the essence of Cap and Trade. Very few other Governors have went this far in support of the environmentalist agenda.

"As for TARP, she was running on a ticket where the candidate on the top of the ticket supported it, so she couldn't exactly come out against it."

I do not buy the excuse that she had to go along with McCain because she did voice her difference of opinion with him on Alaska drilling, so she could have on this issue if it was important to her. This is just an excuse, pure and simple.

"I also believe she later said it was a mistake."

She later opposed Obama's version of this mess, but that was AFTER supporting the McCain backed Bush version. While she was supporting this mess, House Republicans were leading the charge against it and even helped to defeat it the first time through, Not only does she not voice support for this opposition, she blamed these brave souls in her book for McCain losing the race. Here is what Palin says in “Going Rogue” about the bailouts, on page 270: "The House of Representatives rejected a Bush-backed economic bailout plan in a vote in which two-thirds of Republicans voted no. The impression this made on the electorate was not helpful to our cause. Millions of Americans were poised to go bankrupt or lose their savings, and the perception was that Republicans had failed to respond." In short, it was not the support for the Bush backed TARP bailout that she is calling a mistake, but the House opposition to it..

Why take a chance on picking a leader who was on the other side when conservatives were fighting against this when we can select a leader who has consistently been on the side of limited government? I like Sarah but she has been as inconsistent as Mitt Romney when it comes to standing in opposition to big government. The difference is that she is getting a pass on this by a large number of conservatives.

Not such a bad deal if you ask me.

Socialized medicine, abortion on demand and gay "marriage" are required "options" on the Romney/Rambler deal.

No thanks.

All of the publicity and network contracts, and Palin can’t get above 14%. Could it be that conservatives don’t trust her? I sure don’t.

The Cap & Trade charge is bull. Palin, saw the reality that even if based on junk science and hysteria, Federal “Climate Change” legislation, that would deeply affect her energy producing state, was a very real possibility. Because of this, like any good governor should, she formed a committee to determine what the implications of this might be on her state, and what the state could do to deal with those implications.

As for TARP, it would be asking a lot to expect either VP candidate could go against the top of the ticket on an issue as big as that, in the middle of what was sold to the American people as the greatest economic crisis of our time. It would be even harder to expect a newcomer VP candidate to also go against the sitting POTUS from her own party.

"Could it be that conservatives don’t trust her?"

Her record does not give them a reason to trust her. Sure, she is saying the right things now about such issues as Cap and Trade, but she sang a different tune only recently. Besides issuing an Executive Order to create a sub-panel on climate change which endorsed the concept, she embraced it in her debate with Joe Biden. When debate host Gwen Ifill asked Palin whether she supported capping carbon emissions, her answer was unequivocal: "I do," she said. "I do." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89FbCPzAsRA (The discussion on environmental issues starts around the 29 minute mark)

An even bigger concern is her support for the Law of the Sea Treaty. I support her work as a media figure in going after the left. There is no way though, that I could support her as the political leader of a resurgent conservative movement.

Some conservatives make the case against her on the grounds of electability. Given that she is one of the few political figures with negativity ratings as high as Obama, they have a good argument. Be that as it may, it is not the argument which concerns me. My problem is that I do not see her as an ideological conservative. Personally, she is likable, but I do not see her as a leader.

So do I, but nothing beyond that.

” There is no way though, that I could support her as the political leader of a resurgent conservative movement. “

Me either.

"The Cap & Trade charge is bull. "

It is not. One of the items supported by the EO was participation in a regional Cap and Trade scheme. There was also the debate with Joe Biden. When debate host Gwen Ifill asked Palin whether she supported capping carbon emissions, her answer was unequivocal: "I do," she said. "I do." (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89FbCPzAsRA)

"Palin, saw the reality that even if based on junk science and hysteria, Federal “Climate Change” legislation, that would deeply affect her energy producing state, was a very real possibility. Because of this, like any good governor should, she formed a committee to determine what the implications of this might be on her state, and what the state could do to deal with those implications."

Read it again, it was not created to deal with Federal Climate Change "legislation", but the effects of Climate Change. Back in 2007 under Bush, such federal legislation was not an imminent threat. The language of the sub-panel parrots the line that climate change effects would be negative and that we could do something about it by curbing emissions.

As for TARP, it would be asking a lot to expect either VP candidate could go against the top of the ticket on an issue as big as that, in the middle of what was sold to the American people as the greatest economic crisis of our time.

Again, this is an excuse. She expressed a difference of opinion with McCain on drilling in Alaska. Furthermore, she threw the GOP House members, who opposed this mess, under the bus in her book. The book was written AFTER the campaign was over.

Wait Wait Wait
either I can’t read or the article does NOT speak to the headline.
In fact the first sentence says “ His party got its clock cleaned in Tuesday’s midterm elections, but President Barack Obama still remains competitive in some hypothetical 2012 presidential election matchups, especially against Sarah Palin, a new poll shows. “

The only match up If I read it correctly is 0dumbo-Palin which the POS 0dumbo would win, according to the article
