Rep. Raul Grijalva's win in Arizona gives liberals something to cheer
By Nicholas Riccardi, Los Angeles Times
November 4, 2010
One bright spot for Democrats on election night: Liberal stalwart Rep. Raul M. Grijalva apparently held onto his congressional seat representing southern Arizona.
Grijalva, a four-term representative who had easily won reelection in the past, got into trouble after urging a boycott of his state once it enacted a tough immigration law in April. Grijalva, 62, said the law would promote racial profiling.
After portions of the law were suspended by a federal court judge, he reversed course. But Republican Ruth McClung, a 28-year-old political novice and engineer at a defense contractor, pulled within striking distance.
With 99.6% of precincts reporting, Grijalva held a lead of 48% to 46% over McClung on Wednesday morning. Grijalva declared victory, but McClung had not conceded.
On Monday the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals appeared inclined to agree with the federal judge's July ruling, which said the controversial law, SB 1070, usurped the federal government's sole authority to regulate immigration.
The three-judge panel, however, suggested during a hearing in San Francisco that the state may be permitted to require police to investigate the immigration status of suspected criminals.

What a shame McClung lost. I had been watching this race & really was pulling for her. This douche Grijalva should’ve been taken out with the rest of the trash.
Two factors: illegals and election fraud.
I hope she never concededs. This one is tough to take. It looks to me like a clear case of Hispanics putting their ethnicity about the country that has given them home, haven, and a chance to escape the hopeless impoverishment (economic and spiritual of Third World Latin America. (Before anyone shouts “racism,” I have a home in Honduras, love the people, and live here six months a year.)
Start working on 2012 now. Nuke this putz.
Ruth took a big chance running for office and for what?....so some voters could pretend to be self righteous and vote the stinking third party?..
Ruth...thanks for what you did....good luck to you....maybe state wide office is in the cards....next time...we'll catch on to your campaign early enough so we can really help....
Ping!
Ping!
Are there any absentee / military ballots in any of these close races ?
I don’t see anybody in these close races bringing this up ?
It is very difficult to defeat someone funded by the Mexican cartels and aided by the fraudulent votes of thousands of illegal aliens. This disloyal hyphenated-American’s “victory” is yet another argument for sealing the border and implementing systems to thwart voter fraud.
Uh... this race is still undecided. There are tens of thousands of ballots yet to be counted and they are separated by only 4,000 votes. She hasn’t conceded yet as far as I have heard.
McClung and Kelly are still in the race read http://azstarnet.com/news/local/govt-and-politics/elections/article_b9b4f88f-aa93-5657-b431-cc90cd22f5f6.html. It ain’t over till all the votes are counted.
Good, I hate that guy. I hope she doesn’t unless she really loses.
There’s only a 4000 or so vote difference. I haven’t been able to find out about recounts. There is a 1/2 of 1% required recount, but there doesn’t seem to be any explanation of calling for a recount except someone, it looks like from the state, going to court to establish the reason a recount is necessary, then the court has to OK it.
For anyone interested, this is the break down

Hmmmm, would this idiot have won had we actually demanded that ONLY US CITIZENS be allowed to vote?
I think not.
Kelly is out, too? Dammit! I’m afraid to ask. Did Jan Brewer prevail?
In Arizona a recount can only be done if the vote totals are within 1/2 of 1%. Candidates cannot ask or pay for a recount
Well, the LATimes headline writer states that the La Raza incumbent won. But the reporter actually hedges his bet in that first sentence:
“One bright spot for Democrats on election night: Liberal stalwart Rep. Raul M. Grijalva apparently held onto his congressional seat representing southern Arizona.”
Buried in the middle of that sentence: “apparently.”
Heh, heh. Let us pray for a good outcome!
This is nothing new. Many Hispanics believe the current borders don't exist and the American Southwest belongs to Mexico.
