Former US president George W. Bush says in his new memoir he personally gave the go-ahead for CIA officers to waterboard self-confessed 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, according to Thursday's Washington Post.
"Damn right," Bush said when asked by the Central Intelligence Agency whether they should employ the coercive and controversial interrogation technique against the terror suspect, the Post reported, citing an unnamed person who has read the book.

How much of his time would have taken to speak out in support of the troops?
Chain of Command
Excerpt:
By the Goldwater-Nichols DOD Reorganization Act of 1986, Congress clarified the command line to the combatant commanders and preserve civilian control of the military.
The Act states that the operational chain of command runs from the President to the Secretary of Defense to the combatant commanders.
The Act permits the President to direct that communications pass through CJCS. This authority places CJCS in the communications chain.
Further, the Act gives the Secretary of Defense wide latitude to assign the Chairman oversight responsibilities over the activities of the combatant commanders.
Authority

*strategic direction of the Armed Forces,
*operations under unified command,
*integration into an efficient team of land, naval, and air forces,
*prevention of unnecessary duplication of efforts or resources, coordination of operations, and
*effective combined operations

No President in my lifetime has been as honoring, supportive, compassionate, and devoted to our brave military as Pres. George W. Bush, and they highly honor and respect him back.
I don't want the war fought on my front yard.
Two things; 1.. You don’t know what the hell you’re talking about and 2.. If you were actually paying attention Murtha wasn’t a Senator, he was a Congressman.
I guess my first post didn’t take so I will try and repeat what I posted.
First and foremost...President Bush would NEVER abandon as you put it our military. Not one single one of them. NEVER! Our President hiding under his desk in the Oval office? You sir mistake him for someone none of us out here know. President Bush is a Patriot and loves his/our country and all its citizens. He was loved by our military members...just go back and look at the photos etc. Compare it to the first time Obama made an appearance and they played “Hail to the Chief” but the applause was slow motion and weak. Now think when George Bush made HIS appearance...the troops yelled and yelled for him and gave him standing Os. He WAS/IS and always will be a Real Leader.
Second...Murtha was shameless and he was vile. However, I would not thankfully as you put it be glad he passed.
Ditto!!
We didn't get a choice. The Liberals decided to wage war on our troops in Congress, in the press, and in the courts.
Can you reference a time when Bush came out to defend the troops from these attacks?
I didn't say GWB wasn't/isn't patriotic. Of that there is no doubt. I said he didn't defend our troops when they were attacked here at home.
I lived through Vietnam, and understand just how the war was lost. It was lost here at home, not on the battlefield. We darn near lost Iraq for the same reason.
Can you reference a time when GWB defended our troops from the attacks on them here at home?
Amen! Thank you for the Ping, Starwise!
Thank you for your service to our country.
