CHICAGO Showing up to check on the construction progress, the owners of the stately old brick house being renovated on Greenwood Avenue could be forgiven for feeling a bit stressed.
There are blockades at each end of the block, and signs warn people that they need permission from federal authorities to go any farther.
Every carpenter, roofer and mason to set foot on the job site must submit to a background check. Each night they are required to e-mail their schedules for the next day. If they say they are going to arrive at 8 a.m. and they do not arrive until, say, 8:15, they are sent home without pay. When a worker cleans the portable toilets, a Secret Service agent stands at the door to watch.

Ping list worthy?
Not apparent in this post ... the building is next door to the O’Bummers.
Amazing. I dont know what to say but... Wow.
Which makes it worse...private property means nothing to our overlords.
send a contracted tradesman home without pay and I wouldnt be surprised if they slapped a mechanic lien on it for laughs
Isn’t it, though? This is beyond ridiculous...
While some of this I could understand, there’s no way in hell I’d let someone else dictate what I could and couldn’t do to my own home. I don’t care if he’s President, Pope or Plumber, it ain’t his call and the Secret Service be damned. He doesn’t like it, then he can pick his happy ass up and move!
Good grief. They don’t even PRETEND that it’s a security issue. Mouchelle wants to have the last word on what the outside of their neighbor’s home looks like.
Just wait until it’s time for them to plant a garden!
Something also jumped out at me - they are preserving the fireplace that was used as a backdrop for a televised address...everything is phony with the Obamas! It wasn’t even their home!
True.
I just meant that the original post was irrelevant ... until it connected with Obama.
Disgusting. Spend no more of Americans hard earnings upon these thug civil servants in the FEDGOV, we have no nobility. We are a free people and should not tolerate such tyranny.
A hearty "amen!" to that!
Is the house next door the one that used to belong to convicted felon, Tony Rezko, who sold part of a vacant lot to the Obama’s to increase the size of their side yard, thus making the rest of the lot unbuildable?
Mebbe
Nice to know he thinks so highly of us that he distrusts us this much. Right back at you pal.
Definately ping worthy. Thanks for the headsup scott-
The list, ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
I didn’t realise Obama went home so often. From news reports, I thought he was always working. But the article said he’s been home 4 times since the renovation started, and that they actually took their kids home to do trick-or-treating in the neighborhood (aren’t their kids getting just a bit old for that?)
I know that every time Bush went home, it was front-page headlines about how he was goofing off and didn’t take his job seriously.
On the other hand, I understand the concern about the outside of the house, from a security perspective. The Bush’s bought a new house in a neighborhood, and the SS installed gates and fences and Bush was very apologetic about the impact to the neighbors.
Private property. Tell them to get bent. Dare them to do something about how you defy them. Make the Obamas publicly abuse their position on a matter where even the morons at DU cannot rationalize the POTUS getting involved.
Kass: Mayor O’Bama? Yes he can!
Take that executive experience and bring it home to Chicago
John Kass

Those Republicans aren’t done giving our president a shellacking, and now the Washington media is urging him to reveal his “feelings,” hoping he’ll squirt a few tears for the cameras.
So there’s only one thing for President Barack Obama to do:
Quit.
Yes, quit. Obama should return from India after paying that whopping Taj Mahal Palace hotel bill for his entourage out of his own pocket and resign the presidency immediately.
Then he can come home and do something truly productive.
Like run for mayor of Chicago.
I’m not kidding. After two years as president, Obama finally has some executive experience, which now qualifies him for the mayor’s job.
It just doesn’t look like Washington is going to be much fun for the guy. Especially with all those newly elected Republicans led by the Speaker of the Tan lining up to fight him by invoking “the will of the people.”
Will of the people? Not in Chicago. Obama shouldn’t have to stick around Washington and deal with that kind of aggravation.
And what about all those Washington parliamentary tricks? We have them in Chicago, too, but they’re real simple.
