Deceased Democrat Defeats Republican for State Senate Seat
NBC 4 L.A. ^ | 11/03/10 | Erin Richards

Posted on 11/03/2010 9:46:27 AM PDT by MissesBush

With 100 percent of the precincts reporting, deceased candidate, Democrat Jenny Oropeza, defeated Republican John Stammreich in the race for State Senate in the 28th district.

Oropeza, 53, died on Oct. 20. Because her death was within 10 days of the election, her name remained on the ballot.

The governor now has two weeks to declare her seat empty, and schedule a special election within three to four months. This allows Democrats a chance to find a new candidate to run for Oropeza's seat.

A week after her death, Democrats sent out mailers to residents, calling for voters to still reelect Oropeza. The mailers featured Secretary of State Debra Bowen and Democratic Party general counsel Martha Escutia.

Republicans responded to the mailers, filing a complaint that the pamphlets were too similar to official election documents and were confusing voters, violating California law. Stammreich and GOP Chairman Ron Nehring filed the complaint.

"The Republicans are trying to take unfair advantage of Jenny's tragedy," the mailer reads, according to the Los Angeles Times. "They suggest that voting for Jenny will only result in a costly Special Election. I am asking you to vote for Jenny Oropeza. If a Special Election is called in a few months, you'll have the chance to thoughtfully elect your Senator for a new four-year term."

"This is wrong," Stammreich told the Daily Breeze. "This is the chief elections officer who is supposed to be safeguarding the election process. Instead, she has given her name and her office to an illegal attempt to sway this election."

Democrats deny that the mailers could be construed as official documents, citing that it was made clear that they were paid for by the California Democratic Party.

The 28th district includes parts of Los Angeles, Long Beach and the South Bay. The district is largely Democratic.

This is how stupid California voters are. In my State Senate district, our Democratic State Senator died about 10 days ago. The idiots voted to re-elect her last night. But as I think about it, a dead Democrat in this seat would do a lot less damage to the state than a live one. So maybe this Weekend at Bernie's vote is an inspired move afterall.

Well if dead people can vote, then what’s wrong with electing dead candidates?

A good percentage of her voters were probably dead as well. I can picture her campaign team copying names off of neighboring gravestones at her burial.

Apparently even the “live” voters in California are dead above the neck.

whats it called when people deliberately refuse to be educated?.....is that being an idiot or is that more being "stupid"?

An extremely unnecessary statement. There are millions of us Conservatives doing what we can in a sea of Leftists whose origins are mostly of other States, and Nations.

Personally know many of various races here in California that I know voted for Whitman, and Fiorina.

The majority of the problem is Union’s, thanks to Jerry Brown’s last term as Governor, and of course the inevitable State, and Municipal workers all on the public dole, and then the promises of the Leftist Democrats to take from me, and give to thee to the ignorant masses that target California from as I pointed out above other States, and Nations.

It would help to NOT have all those public services of which so many are contrived, and their Leftist Unions. It would help to NOT have all those South De Borderer’s of illegal status with bogus identifications voting for the Leftists, but you see the Left has been allowed their way, because they shamelessly create a scene when confronted screaming racism, etc., and the News Media provides them the cover they need to get what they want no matter the insanity of their tantrums.

It’s a difficult cycle to break. It’s precisely what the Leftists are trying to achieve with the entire of this Nation. If they can get the USA to the point they have California, they win.
