ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Write-in votes for Joe Miller in the Alaska Senate race won’t count toward the GOP nominee’s tally.

So says Lt. Gov. Craig Campbell.

Campbell, who oversees elections, tells The Associated Press that because Miller’s name isn’t on the official list of write-in candidates, any ballots with "Joe Miller" written in won’t be credited to the tea party favorite.

Why write him in if his name was on the freakin’ ballot?

They need to scrutinize all writeins and if they spelled Murkowsky wrong, throw it out.

Maybe a different Joe Miller and some mistakenly voted for that one.

Who is this CAMPBELL guy ?

He's a guy who would not be in that job had Sarah Palin finished her term.

BS. I saw the official list. Joe is indeed on there, as well as McAdams, and over 150 other people.

That was a list of candidates, both those on the ballot and those eligible for write in.

There is no reason for Joe Miller’s name to be on any write-in ballot. He was on the regular ballot and thus the voter only had to check his name and move onto the next office.

If they spelled it "Murkowsky" they spelled it wrong.

(It's Murkowski with an I.)

Here is the list of write-in candidates, right from the State of Alaska Division of Elections itself:

Joe Miller is there. As is Rat McAdams.

Will Alaska have a runoff election if nobody gets 50%+1?

Winner take all............ if and when they get that decided.

I begin to understand the French of 1789;some of the aristocrats just won’t accept the fact they do not have a divine right to power and wealth.
Time for Alaskans to use the ethics laws that crippled Sarah Palin’s governorship to attack the lying, cheating scoundrels still in office.

That’s the list of eligible candidates, both on the ballot and registered write-ins. Millers is not identified as a write-in candidate; there is no need since he’s on the ballot.

It probably won’t make any difference since his name was on the ballot anyway, stil...

Isn’t the point of allowing write ins that a voter has the right to vote for anyone they please, not just those listed on the ballot? Is Alaska now changing that so they have basicly two ballots—a printed ballot and write in ballot—and if you aren’t on either of those then you voters aren’t allowed to vote for you?

If a voter has the right to vote for anyone they please, then who is the state of Alaska to say their write in vote is invalid?

Lawsuit! Intent of the voter! Whatever else Gore’s lawyers said in 2000!

Since Joe Miller, the Republican candidate, is on the ballot then the intent of anyone writing 'Joe Miller' in must have been to vote for a different Joe Miller.

Will Alaska have a runoff election if nobody gets 50%+1?

No.

You can’t just write in anyone you want and have it counted toward that person? I didn’t know they had to be on a list. I’ve never personally seen a write-in list in any of the elections in which I have participated. Of course, I don’t live in Alaska either.
