One thread with a summary of our accomplishments yesterday
The minds of Freepers | 11-3-10 | JLB AKA Republican Extremist

Let's make a central thread that we can point to the historic accomplishments of yesterday. For instance:

This number of seats gained was the highest since XXXX.

This is the first time the House has had less than 200 Democrats since XXXX.

Which races turned from Dem to Republican?

Which Governorships and State Legislatures flipped?

How many Governorships do we have now?

Which Republicans or Tea Partiers are sitting in which old Democrat leadership seats?

You get the idea...

I know there are races still pending - but does anyone have an exact number at to how many U.S. House Seats were won by Republicans in last night’s election - as of right now?

Same for the Senate.

I have searched all over the web and cannot find number.

Anyone know?

We did very well - but this is just a start. We have a lot of work to do going forward. And when I get down, I think of the odds our namesakes - the first Tea Party - had to face!

From the NY Times - (I know, but get over it....lol)

Almost all Congressional districts voted
more Republican in this election than in 2008.

The shift reversed the Obama-driven wave of 2008 ...... and reversed the movement toward Democrats in 2006
when the Iraq war was a top issue.

This year’s election was one of the largest
House shake-ups of the last 50 years.

Republicans had picked up 60 seats as of 7 a.m.

They flipped 22 seats that Democrats held from 2002 to 2008,
and defeated about the same number of freshman Democrats.
Republicans took over 28 seats held by Blue Dogs, more than
half of this group of fiscally conservative Democrats. Without their
presence in the middle, the House may become more polarized.

Tea Party candidates swept up 32 Democratic seats. They won 39 seats
total in the House, most by narrower margins than other Republicans.

The Republican wave was driven by many demographic groups.
(very interesting graph)

Republicans now control 100% of Michigan state government!

We even have a super majority in the state Senate. We can over-ride any veto of our new RINO Governor.

This is the first time the Republican Party has made gains in the House of Representatives in the first Congressional election following a Giants' win in the World Series.

NY Giants won the 1905 WS...in the 1906 election the Democrats made gains.
The NY Giants won the 1921 and 1922 WS...in 1922 the Democrats made gains.
The NY Giants won the 1933 WS...in 1934 the Democrats made gains.
The NY Giants won the 1954 WS...the Democrats made gains in the 1954 election.
The SF Giants won the 2010 WS, but the Republicans made gains in the 2010 election.

I checked out the interactive MSNBC election results page a few minutes ago.

As of now, the GOP has picked up 5 seats in the Senate, with three still undecided. This may include the Alaska seat where the GOP will almost certainly win -- with either "Republican" Miller or "Write-In" Murkowski coming out on top.

The GOP has picked up 61 House seats, with 11 still undecided.

There are even more victories at the state level for the Republican Party. Ohio and Wisconsin, for example, were devastating losses from top to bottom for the Democrats.

What's also interesting about the 2010 isn't just the number of Republicans who have won . . . it's the TYPE of Republicans who have won. Having a guy like Marco Rubio beat Charlie Crist in Florida, and having Pat Toomey beat Joe Sestak for Arlen Specter's old seat in Pennsylvania, is a very big deal.

I'm also pleased to see so many political neophytes do well this year -- especially a number of retired medical doctors who won their House races.

Those are very big losses for the Democrats. Those knuckleheads probably had about 60+ years in Congress between them.
