Longtime U.S. Rep Ike Skelton falls to Vicky Hartzler

GARDEN CITY, Mo.| Vicky Hartzler — taking advantage of central Missouri’s anger toward and distrust of government — decisively upset 34-year U.S. House veteran Ike Skelton on Tuesday.

With all precincts reporting, unofficial results showed Hartzler with 113,500 votes, or just more than 50 percent. Skelton, the Democrat, had 101,507 votes, or 45 percent.

“I’ve told people all along that this district has been fed up and fired up and ready to stand up, and we did,” Hartzler told cheering supporters.

Hartzler’s victory was part of a huge nationwide sweep for her party, and reflected the strongly conservative nature of the 4th Congressional District.

Skelton had appealed for votes by pointing to his opposition to his party’s health care reform and to his longtime support for the military. But it was not enough to overcome Hartzler’s persistent criticism of his ties to the unpopular Democratic leadership in Congress.

He conceded the race shortly after 10:15 p.m., speaking to supporters in Lexington.

Who voted with Pelosi 95% of the time since she assumed the throne.

That made him a "Red" Skelton in my book.

Skelton had appealed for votes by pointing to his opposition to his party’s health care reform and to his longtime support for the military.

He voted for it before he voted against it.

He was instrumental in keeping it alive. Nasti let him vote against it at the end to try to save his ass.
