Not surprising, but kind of a bummer for me. I know Cao was anything but popular with most FReepers, but I liked the guy. Amazing life story, a great example of the promise of the American Dream. And politically, his 55 ACU rating, while not exactly Reagan-esque, was pretty darn good for someone in LA-2 (64% African-American, last held by a Republican in 1891).

BTW, his opponent, Cedric Richmond, once had his law license suspended for submitting falsified documents. Looks like back to business as usual for William Jefferson's old seat.

Yup. Cao’s vote for Obamacare made him political roadkill. In a way, if you don’t stand on principle, you deserve to lose.

His vote for Obamacare rendered him toast.

This was not a conservative loss, it was a RINO loss!
Cao is the marquee RINO, and he lost! Good Riddens scumbag!
Onward with RINO Kill (politically speaking, of course)

Yup. It was apparent he could never be re-elected in a heavily Democratic district where ironically enough, Obamacare turned out to be as toxic as in the rest of the country.

One thing good, I really think it won't take too long for Cedric Richmond to wind up in prison. He's more corrupt, dumber and greedier than Jefferson.

Cao didn’t have a chance in this mostly black district.

For a while that was technically a Republican district.

Too bad that Cao was not a bolder, more intuitive man.

this was a traditional rat seat...Cao winning was perhaps a fluke but I liked him and I had hoped he would win this time around...

people seem to forget that it was Christie, and Cao, and Scott Brown among a few others that started the tidal wave.....today's results nationwide are directly tied to the efforts of Cao, and Christie because their wins gave us HOPE....

Politically speaking, it was no major loss. And it’s just one of those seats that the GOP isn’t going to win until and unless the district is redrawn.

Cao did not start anything, he was elected in 2008.

New Jersey and Virginia started the wave.

Actually, Cao’s win of two years ago was a fluke - he beat William Jefferson, who had recently been convicted of bribery. Furthermore, Cao won in a low-turnout runoff that occurred a month after Obama’s win.

Here’s the district’s numbers.

64% Black
30% White

65% Democrat
11% GOP
24% Other

LOL, having Cao in there for a cycle was cool.

He was always a dead man walking, but for a while that district was not Democrat.

Cao needed to vote for Obamacare in a 64% black district. He cannot ignore the constituents he is obligated to represent.

I agree. You just know it stuck in the craw of the State-Run Media to have an R stuck in a solid D district.

Having a Republican voting for Obamacare was very ‘uncool’.

Good riddance.

From the AP/Times Article...Cao cast himself as a bipartisan friend of President Obama. But votes against two key Obama initiatives, the economic stimulus and the healthcare overhaul

Huh??? I thought Cao voted for the "healthcare overhaul".
