New Jerseys most conservative member of Congress, Scott Garrett, handily won re-election to a fifth term by defeating Democrat Tod Theise and three other candidates in the 5th Congressional District. Garrett, of Sussex County, solidified his position in the House of Representatives and an increasingly right-leaning national GOP party by racking up another big win today, this time against Theise of Warren County. Theise, like predecessor Democrats who failed to dent Garretts armor, claimed he is too extreme and out-of-touch with his mainly moderate constituency. But voters in the district, which has long been a Republican stronghold, delivered to Garrett one of his largest margins of victory. Green Party candidate Ed Fanning and independents Mark Quick and James Douglas Radigan also lost today.

Here's a guy who went to the local high school, lives in my town, grew up here. He's not a camera-hog. He appears here and there, and is a little gawky, but he's true blue, and it doesn't bother me at all that he's not Captain Television. Sure, we need our telegenic spokesmen, but we also need our gut and grinders. The O-line of politics. Garrett is such a man.
He runs with the Pence crowd in the House, and you know that's saying something. He serves on what used to be (LOL!) Barney Fwank's Financial Services Committee. Finance is his background and expertise, but this is not a fat cat.
Anyway, this isn't breaking news. He hardly had to campaign. But I just wanted everyone to know that, though it may surprise them, here in the northwest corner of New Jersey, we've got a rock solid conservative representative firmly established in the House of Representatives. Garrett's been tea-party since before the Uprising.
So, wine glass aloft, stogie lit, I want to take this moment to say CHEERS. It's a very good night.
We no longer live in the only conservative Republican House district east of the Delaware River.
What a relief.
I'm kind of surprised that you live in this district, Huck. For some reason I could have sworn you lived in Frelinghuysen's 11th District.
I live in Sussex country used to have to hold my nose and vote for Freylinghausen, now in Garrett’s district, a pleasure to vote for Garret who got to the house by taking out the RINO M. Roukema.
Back around 2000, I lived in Frelinghuysen’s district. We had some good state level reps. Don’t remember their names. Been up here in Wantage Twp. for about 8 years now. My wife is from here. I love it so much. These are the best years of my life.
.
Pallone is the projected winner.
