Democrats file first legal challenges

Democrats have filed their first legal challenges before polls even closed on Election Day, asking for an extension of voting hours in Connecticut and questioning the denial of provisional ballots in Illinois.

Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.), the chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCCC), told reporters at party headquarters that officials had gone to court in two states. In Connecticut, the party has asked for a one-hour extension of voting in Bridgeport, a Democratic stronghold where turnout was reported so high that officials ran out of ballots, Menendez said.

State Attorney General Richard Blumenthal (D) is battling Republican Linda McMahon in that state.

In Illinois, Menendez said Democrats had filed a Freedom of Information Act request for provisional ballots after learning voters who had not filled out the absentee ballot requests they submitted were denied provisional ballots in violation of election law.

"the party has asked for a one-hour extension of voting in Bridgeport"

That would be to allow the bussed-in Dem voters from NY to get through traffic to vote in CT?

Liberal radio hosts on the drive home asked the question: "Have there been any voter irregularities this cycle?" Their answer: "No, it's been very smooth, with no complaints at all. With the exception of some people in urban areas (*ahem*) who felt disenfranchised or who could not work their machines."

So, the Nevada ballots that get marked for Angle but register Reid? They never heard about it. The military ballots that didn't get sent out? They don't know. But, in some Democrat strongholds, there may be an overwhelming need to count votes especially carefully (*ahem*).

My guess...they had ballots for 100% of registered voters, but turnout is higher than 100%.

What’s the problem? The union thugs were so incompetent that they could not feed them, mug them and send them to the polls on time?

I don’t get it. Somewhere else I read the big city turnout in places like Bridgeport was down! All these reports are frustrating. Guess we just have to wait and see what real votes show.

Portman wins OH! Excellent news.

Decision pending on whether polls will stay open till 10 p.m. after ballots run out in many Bridgeport polling places Written by Nancy Doniger Tuesday, 02 November 2010 19:01 Mayor Bill Finch petitioned the secretary of the state to allow the polls to stay open in Bridgeport until 10 p.m. after ballots ran out at a number of polling places.

Althouth the decision is pending, one thing is certain: voters waiting in line as of 8 p.m. will be able to cast ballots, and it's likely to be a long night before election results are in. This could affect the timing of the outcome of many races, especially the close 4th District race between U.S. Rep. Jim Himes, a Democrat, and his Republican challenger, Dan Debicella.

What kind of people need provisional ballots? Aren’t they people who are not registered to vote and have been bussed to the polls by union thugs? Do they check ID at the polls in Connecticut? Maybe they ran out of provisional ballots because so many people are casting more than one. This stinks.

And republicans should be looking into how they ran out of ballots and the extreme likeliness that that there is a lot of phony voting going on.

(WTNH) - With all 23 voting precincts in Bridgeport running out of ballots, a judge agreed with Mayor Bill Finch that polls should stay open until 10pm.

Polls normally close at 8pm in Connecticut.

Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz says election officials only ordered 21,000 ballots in Bridgeport, far short of the 69,000 registered voters in the city.
