With a day to go before Election Day, GOP gubernatorial hopeful Carl Paladino tried to connect with voters with the help of an online video invoking his dead son. Paladino said his desire to run for office came last year after his son Patrick died in a car accident.

Why didn't he do this three months ago?

There's nothing quite as appealing as truth.

I like his politics, but I don’t like his character.

Having a love-child, keeping it secret from your wife, and then revealing it to her in the wake of her son’s death is low.

NYPost has been working against Paladino from the start.

They worked against Paterson with their hack, Dicker, so Cuomo would be the one!

Another evil, empty suit, who thinks he’s entitled.

GO PALADINO

I agree. We've seen plenty of politicians say the right thing, and believe the right thing, but when it comes right down to it, a lot of politicians just do the expedient thing.

If a candidate has good policies, I pay attention. But they must have good character. Character is the main thing. Character tells me that they will actually act on the policies that they talk about.

I'm glad I'm not in NY -- I don't think I could vote for Paladino.

Are you serious, did he do that? Just seen the video and he said honesty and giving your word to someone is everything.

Is he stealing the dead son bit from John Edwards?

I am serious.

He had an ongoing affair with a co-worker 10 years ago, and she had his child. So he has a 10 year old daughter. He and his other adult children kept the daughter a secret from his wife until last year, when his youngest adult child was killed in the accident. That is when he decided to come clean about it, since the 10 year-old was distraught over the death of her brother and wanted to be at the funeral.

The wife has handled it all very well and accepted the child, which is the Christian thing to do. But it doesn’t speak well for him.

Nor does the fact that he took the 10 year-old and her mother (the former mistress) on a trip to Italy this past year. Strange.

I’m all for forgiveness, but it doesn’t mean I want a person like him in a leadership position (though the alternative is Cuomo, and he is no picnic, either, so NY really is in a tough spot).

This WNY freeper is heading to the voting booth in 30 minutes, and Paladino gets my vote.

I truly hope he beats the pants of Cuomo, but it is wise to be prepared for disappointment.

I just cast my vote for Paladino, holding my nose and with a big sigh. Cuomo is worse than he is in every way. I love NY and wish it would get its act together and give us decent politicians!

I don't think I could vote for Paladino.

It's going to be a real pleasure for me this afternoon. You see, I remember what Daddy Cuomo did to us and Carl does real good on local feeds away from the city press.

Are you perfect? Is anyone? There couldn’t be a stronger contrast between the Cuomo’s and Carl Palladino. Think about how many more people will be be hurt in the state of NY by a mismanaged and corrupt government than Pallaino’s wife and child. No brainer.

“Are you perfect?”

Not at all. But my wife can trust me.

If Paladino’s wife can’t trust him, why should anybody else?

By the way, I would also vote for Paladino over Cuomo. No brainer.

I agree with your thoughts on trust. . . have always felt exactly as you do with regard to politicians. Somehow though, the more trustworthy man appears to be Carl.

Running two family households for 10 years incognito? I can understand someone doing wrong then coming clean but perpetuate a lie for 10 years says plenty about character. Not even John Edwards could lie that much.
