I used the html abbreviations for the characters instead of the literals.

So instead of the < character, type in &lt; , and the > becomes &gt;.

So the <i> becomes &lt;i&gt; ...

(and to make it more confusing, in my text above, when I needed to SHOW you an ampersand, I had to TYPE &amp; and for the semicolons, I had to TYPE &#59; ).
