It's one of the greatest days of your life as you are finally getting married. An English speaking Swiss couple had a Muslim as a "minister" of their wedding. The so-called "minister" cursed at them in Dhivehi and called them "infidels" and an assortment of other disgusting and heinous wishes.
The "minister" wished harm upon their children, and for them to be born with a skin disease. The other staff members stood by and let the "minister" curse them for the entire ceremony.
The Vilu Reef hotel in the Maldives apologized to the wedding couple for the conduct of their staff during the renewal of marriage vows. The Vilu Reef hotel staff member read out loud a series of disgusting sexual terms and hateful religious slurs in the Dhivehi language during the wedding.

Well, golly! I guess that makes it all better, right?
If the Brits still had stones, they would slap a total boycott on Maldives trade and tourism for a year.
You get what you pay for.....
Seeking an ethnically diverse experience you can tell your friends about carries certain risks.
This is going to do wonders for the Maldives tourism industry, I’d imagine. That’s probably what the locals want anyway.
They can always get Obammy to ramp up their “aid shipments,” as long as we remove any labeling that identifies it as coming from The Great Satan.
But what did they expect from a moslem imam(or whatever he was). A really obtuse couple with an inane idea.
But...it seemed so cool to pledge our eternal love in a language we didn’t speak by a complete stranger....
East is east, west is west, and never the twain shall meet- especially at a wedding.
Opps... Yeah, Swiss. I thought I had read that the couple was English in an earlier story.
Seriously, though. I think that sanctions should be implemented. In fact, I think I have a good solution. If the Maldives pays total restitution to the couple, plus compensation for their injured feelings AND if they agree to lash that “imam” 50 times in front of the Swiss Embassy, they might call off the boycott.
I wonder how much money those two idiots spent on their wedding. Whatever happened to getting married at the local church with the reception at the VFW hall?
“The hotel has offered for them to renew their wedding vows again.”
Umm, how about just giving them a refund?
No way would I incur the cost of going back there just to get a “free” ceremony re-do.
The VFW? Dude, name the last foreign war the Swiss fought!
> Whatever happened to getting married at the local church with the reception at the VFW hall?
I guess that's the downside to being Swiss: no wars, no veterans of foreign wars, no VFW hall ...
Seriously, though, I suspect they thought they'd get a new agey Hindu or Buddhist, but didn't google in advance to find out what the predominant religion in the Maldives is.
It's risky enough to assume that Asian Hindus or Buddhists fit the Western New Age stereotypes, but the truth is even worse:
Islam is the only official religion of The Maldives. The open practice of all other religions is forbidden and such actions are liable to prosecution under the law of the country. A small but growing number of Maldivians do question their faith, but rarely in a public way. According to the revised constitution, in article two, it says that the republic "is based on the principles of Islam." Article nine says that "a non-Muslim may not become a citizen of the Maldives"; number ten says that "no law contrary to any principle of Islam can be applied in the Maldives." Article nineteen states that "citizens are free to participate in or carry out any activity that is not expressly prohibited by sharia or by the law." -- Wikipedia
lets hope it was a learning experience...
Why would any one not want it in their own tongue for such a beautiful moment in life? Just plain dumb! Then to be marred by this memory on the first day of a new life. I doubt they will stay together any way.
Kinda like those people that get tattoos of Chinese characters then find out later they don’t mean what they thought.
