Top Republicans in Washington and in the national GOP establishment say the 2010 campaign highlighted an urgent task that they will begin in earnest as soon as the elections are over: Stop Sarah Palin.
Interviews with advisers to the main 2012 presidential contenders and with other veteran Republican operatives make clear they see themselves on a common, if uncoordinated, mission of halting the momentum and credibility Palin gained with conservative activists by plunging so aggressively into this years midterm campaigns.
There is rising expectation among GOP elites that Palin will probably run for president in 2012 and could win the Republican nomination, a prospect many of them regard as a disaster in waiting.

Another “Palin Can’t Win” story.
How many does that make?
A million? A billion? A trillion?
Have they convinced anybody yet?
One of the alphabet soup newscasts last night had a puff piece on a certain slick haired Massachusetts RINO.
About how he flies coach and other such nonsense. They are trying to pick our candidate for us, even before the mid terms are held. Not this year, LSM.
Still, she has never faced serious criticism in public in a campaign setting, and it's impossible to anticipate how she would react to it or whether she would want to give up the money and celebrity to put herself through that.
No public criticism? What planet has the author resided on since the 2008 campaign started?

If all the coal in the Appalachian mountains, were to become as valuable as gold...If every bit of it were dug up and put in a gigantic expansion of the Ft. Knox repository...
...there *still* would not be enough wealth in those vaults to pay for the protection any “Washington Insiders” or “Republican backroomers” would need, if it were discovered that they had attempted to harm or sabotage Sarah Palin in any way.
They would be (figuratively) “Matthew Shepard-ed”.
Rush Limbaugh:
What’s the point of running a story like that right now if not, then, to sow dissension in the ranks?
Rush is right.
The McCain campaign (and Sarah) made a major miscalculation bring her into the campaign without a “warm up”. McCain and Biden had dealt with national politics for (too many) years and Obama had his two year campaign to perfect repertoire of sound bits for a fawning "press". Sarah ended up looking really bad during the MSM interview hatched jobs and to a large extent she deserved it for not being prepared sufficiently and for naively believe she would get a fair shake.
I, like most Freepers, like her a lot. But she has to convince the independents, not us. She's made a lot of progress but she still has a long ways to go with those outside of our circles.
No matter what, her 2010 campaign work has been amazing and the entire party owes an enormous debt. Maybe, just maybe, she can do the Obi-Wan Kenobie thing for 2012. O:)
"In my experience, there's no such thing as luck." ―Obi-Wan Kenobi
They still don't get it - so who are the dullards now, you elitist jack-wagons?
she has never faced serious criticism in public in a campaign settingMight as well end this "Palin Can't Win" story on a baldfaced lie. Why the hell not?
If the GOP “stops” Palin, then WE will “stop” the GOP.
Stupid is as stupid does, I suppose.
The Denorats have thrown everything they have at her, and she’s still coming after them; Faster and stronger every time.
Those so-called GOP leaders had best take notice: You’re about a hairs breadth away from suffering the same fate as the Whigs!
The top Republicans would be better off if they simply could put forth a viable candidate for President, a candidate that reflects the conservative values of the people of this country -- borders, language, culture, responsible fiscal policy, term limits, restoring the culture of life, fear of God, and so on. Read the manifesto in "Trickle up Poverty" by Mike Savage.
The politics of personal destruction cannot be popular. People with common sense can make up their own minds.
Please: ‘don’t anyone tell Obama what comes after a trillion’
In fact, we are now at a point where the survival of the nation requires direct political confrontation with these people. That's why candidates like Christine O'Donnell have to be supported. The Castles of the political landscape are only going to perpetuate the problem.
The GOP ‘’leaders’’ would prefer to lose in 2012 rather than win with Palin. Pathetic ain’t it??
They were content to ride her coattails in the midterms, but now want to stop her. A**holes.
Some reason this idiotic story needs to be posted 10 times in 10 hours?
I am looking forward to the inauguration of President Palin.
On Fox News last night, Great talked about that “Politico” hit piece with Sarah Palin (she was on the show and looked great by the way). Great said is was embarrassing journalism listing some 15 unnamed source like “Gop Elites said this” and so on. The only person in the article by name was guess who?
That’s right : CARL ROVE
And he said Sarah had never ungone criticism during a campaign. Is he smoking pot or what, where has been the last two years.
Trust me, CARL ROVE will be leading the STOP SARAH PALIN campaign 36 hours for now, and Hannity and Fox still have him on but none have the GUTS TO CALL HIM ON IT.
