Republicans are positioned for large gains Tuesday, likely retaking the House and picking up seats in the Senate, amid strong voter frustration with President Barack Obama and the Democratic-run Congress, according to a new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll.
In the new survey, Republicans held a six-point edge, 49% to 43%, when likely voters were asked which party they hoped would be in charge.
Nearly half of voters who favored GOP control of Congress said their feelings reflected a vote of protest against the Democratsan unusually high proportion that pollsters said reflected deep frustration among many voters.
"The Democrats are about to feel the full force of a tidal wave, tsunami or a 7.0 earthquake," said Democratic pollster Peter Hart, who co-directs the survey with Republican pollster Bill McInturff.
Mr. McInturff said the poll results were a "grim set of data that projects a larger election for Republicans than 1994."

I just hope we are not being too cocky...
Every one is talking about a 7 or 8 seat pick up for the GOP in the Senate. They’re playing it safe.
It may be more but no one knows for sure until Tuesday night.
I just hope we are not being too cocky...
it’s a Tea-Nami
If the generic House ballot is 55-40, some of that is bound to leak over into the Senate races. Almost certainly, there will be some pleasant surprises in the Senate Tuesday night.
Cocky... I’m really worried that this will not be enough to bring these Socialists idiots to a halt! I’m not really sure that anything will change the outlook at this point. Changing things this election is only a start - if not kept up, nothing will change.
Agree! The future is looking really dark!
Can you hear us now??????????????
**Changing things this election is only a start ... **
Nov 2 is the Beginning of our work... it appears as the GOP still does not “GET IT”
Your darn right this is a Tea-Nami. The face of the GOP Jim Jeffords, Lisa Murcowski and Lindsey Graham. It’s Karl Rove slamming conservative candidates who have affronted the GOP good ol’ boys club.
I don’t give a Tinker’s damn how the Republican Party does this election. I want conservatives, and I’ll take ‘em where I can get ‘em.
The Grand Old Party better show us it’s not the Same Old Party after the election, or they’ll regret it.
Mercy, are you ever right! Not only is this the beginning, but it just may be the last chance to save this country!
Last chance folks - step up or prepare for the future.
Agreed!
The Republicans need to be as scared as the dems are.
Don’t take your eyes off the Cocktail Party Republican Elites......they’re attacking Palin, because she wants to work for US.
The Republican Elite just want “normal”, where they can continue to live the “easy life”.
We’ve gotta be the bedbugs that make their lives MISERABLE if they don’t shape up AFTER November 2nd.
We’re coming for THEM, too.
For weeks the MSM has been a strong denial of the data, even though it has been staring them in the face.
Now, they have to admit it.
This time, the tingle in Chrissie Matthews’ leg will be because he is wetting himself.
Any predictions for the Senate?
“I just hope we are not being too cocky...’
I agree. I’m starting to feel uncomfortable with all the predictions of an almost certain bloodbath for the dems.
My main concern is that people will behave as though Tuesday automatically reverts us back to a time when America was America, and therefore we can relax. “Letting the good times roll” is years away at the earliest.
I predict that we won't know the Senate until a week after the election - it'll take that long to dispose of the Democrat court challenges to their losses. If then . . .
I hope Christine O'Donnell wins in DE, and that the Republican wins in WVa. That would provide two instant votes against cloture in the Senate during the Lame Duck session.
