Our Opinion: Hare, Schock, Shimkus in U.S. House races

18th District When you are the youngest member of Congress and have looks like those of Aaron Schock, you are going to attract attention.

Schock, the 29-year-old Peoria Republican whose district includes a portion of Springfield, has been celebrated in magazine profiles, featured on “Top Chef” and, in general, celebrated as the new star of young conservatism. But more impressive than Schock’s celebrity is his mature and cautious take on it.

Sure, says Schock, he’s attracted attention. But celebrity will mean nothing if he does not construct a solid record to back it. And besides, he notes, appearances on TV and in magazines have helped bring interest to him and the more substantial aspects of his career.

It’s hard to come away from a meeting with Schock unimpressed. Where once he projected a political whiz kid presence that could easily distract from his message, Schock these days is impressively thoughtful on issues, displaying an openness, insightfulness and curiosity we’d like to see more of in Washington.

Schock does not see the fact that he has voted with President Barack Obama 30 percent of the time as a sign of weakness. He touts it as evidence that he is not governed by ideology, but rather by the needs of specific situations. It’s worth noting that Schock did not vote with Obama on the stimulus despite a ride on Air Force One to Peoria with the president intended to sway the young congressman.

Schock was not in Congress when the TARP bill was passed, but he says he would have voted for it had he been there. To say that now, when those who voted “no” wear it like a medal of honor, speaks well of Schock’s self-confidence on matters of economics.

He stood firm when it really counted. He’s young, inexperienced, but has the right instincts. This election ought to be a formative influence, remember his entire political life has been under Democrat domination, state and federal.

Funny.....I was just reading an interesting article on HillBuzz pretty much excoriating the Cocktail Party Republicans, so when I saw Schock’s name, I re-read the article.
YIKES!
You might be interested in reading it, too.
(HillBuzz- written by gay guys that seem to “know” the gays amongst us. Who better to “know”?)...they are “reformed” democrats...but, they don’t like RINOs either.

http://hillbuzz.org/

“If you are a closeted gay Cocktail Party establishment Republican (like Lindsey Graham, Charlie Crist, Mark Kirk, or Aaron Schock), the media will keep your secret and protect you — giving you great photos and coverage too — as long as you do whatever Democrats want you to do at inopportune moments for conservatives. You can never be counted on to stand for anything because you are constantly blackmailed by Democrats who threaten to make you the next Larry Craig, Eric Massa, or Mark Foley if you step out of line and ever defy the DNC on anything.”

Just so you know - the Democrat Party's entire MO for Dems and Repubs is blackmail.

Watch The Godfather again where the Nevada senator is set up at Freddo’s who*e house. The senator goes in a room with a girl, he probably passes out after getting a mickey finn, the girl is stabbed to death, he wakes up with blood all over and the knife in his hand.

Tom (Robert Duval) is there to tell the senator they will take care of the problem. Michael (Al Pacino) never has a problem again from the senator. This is exactly how the Dem Party works - I am NOT exaggerating.

Well OK, so if I accept at face value that you are not exaggerating, who do you know is under a blackmail threat based on a fixed murder frame job? Inquiring minds and all that ....

I am not saying they will kill people but they will set them up to blackmail them. The Clintons got everyone’s FBI files. The Dems will do anything for power. Blackmail is child’s play to them.

Don’t forget the 3 dead homosexuals in the Wright congregation, just when Obama was setting up to be Illinois senator.

True, but his claim that he would have voted for the TARP bill is troubling. Unfortunately, he is unlikely to become more conservative in Washington.

According to Gawker, he has denied such rumors.

Quoting from the article:

” As for his personal life, Mr. Schock is single and opposed to gay marriage, and he has told reporters that he is not gay. In the interview in his office, he mentioned a former girlfriend. He also said that while he is passionate about all issues, the social ones are “not what compelled me to run for office.”

“Your belief system tends to be a function of how you were raised,” Mr. Schock said. “Being raised in the Midwest and in a relatively conservative household, my views were shaped by my upbringing, by my Christian faith.”

So, how did he feel about joining the ranks of Liza Minnelli and Lady Gaga as a gay icon, albeit for the Washington set?

He was quick to dismiss the frenzy, saying the pictures were just a distraction. As for those who admire his physique, “If they’re in my district, I’ll take votes wherever I can get them,” he said. “Who knew I could get this much attention with my shirt on?” “
