Obama fires back at AIDS protesters, tells them to hassle GOP By Vicki Needham - 10/30/10 06:53 PM ET President Obama deflected heckling by AIDS protesters during a Saturday rally, suggesting they take up their cause with "the other side" that's opposed to funding.
A group of people interrupted Obama's speech before 9,000 in Connecticut chanting "Fund Global AIDS."
The president was quick to respond to the chorus of protesters saying, "Youve been appearing at every rally weve been doing. And were funding global AIDS. And the other side is not. So I don't know why you think this is a useful strategy to take."
Obama was in Bridgeport as part of a four-state swing during the final days before the midterm elections, stumping for Rep. Jim Himes, who is in a tight re-election race, and the state attorney general, Richard Blumenthal, who is seeking the Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Chris Dodd, who is retiring.
"I think it would make a lot more sense for you guys to go to the folks who arent interested in funding global AIDS and chant at that rally," Obama said. "Because were trying to focus on figuring out how to finance the things that you want financed, all right?"
That led to chants of "Obama, Obama" as the crowd stirred and the president tried to calm emotions as the protesters were escorted out of the rally.
"It's very important to remember that an issue like global AIDS is very important," Obama said. "And the question weve got is which party is most likely to actually fund it in ways that help people around the world."
He then added that it will be difficult to move forward on many issues until "we get the economy fixed, unless we can put people back to work, unless folks feel more confident about the future."
"Its going to be hard to move forward on all these initiatives."
For Obama....the end justifies the means.
His end: try to get votes
His means: lies
What would be more likely to stop the spread of AIDS? 10 billion to distribute condoms to Africa or a billion dollar prize for the first AIDS vaccine? Would the Gates foundation fund such a prize? Betcha it would. But that isn’t the goal of AIDS activists, to stop the spread of AIDS. Or rather, only a part is stopping AIDS. They are aiming to reduce population growth in Africa, to bring abortion mills to every village, and to loot that funding for their own programs everywhere.
The names change - zero population growth, global warming, AIDS awareness, but the agenda never changes.
Wow, and here I thought The One had, WON?
Apparently, being in charge is not really being in charge when accountability happens.
Obama said. “Because were trying to focus on figuring out how to finance the things that you want financed, all right?”
And, just when are we supposed to expect he’ll have things “figured out”? Seems to be taking him awhile. Methinks he’s too effing stupid to figure ANYTHING out. . .or, he knows he doesn’t really have to.
He’s probably going to ponder it when he takes his glittering freak show to India. Maybe he’ll think about it while the First Wookie talks with the sex workers of Mumbai.
A message from Dear Leader: WWWWwwwwwwaaaaaaaahhhhhhhHHHH!!!!
only thing he forgot was to tell them to go look for us in the back of the bus
That's an interesting point. Imagine if just half of what they spend on entertainment, vacations and shopping was used to fund any cause. Whatever the cause, it would be rolling in dough.
Complete idiot. Funding for AIDS prevention in Africa was one of the unsung triumphs of the Bush administration. Africa and India, along with “fly-over country” miss Bush. I guess Obama was too busy playing golf to read the policy briefs on Sub-Saharan Africa when he took office.
yep, but republicans never get any credit for all they do and try to do to help blacks.
He's right, I have to admit.
We won't see a fixed economy until at least the first Tuesday of November 2012.
From wikipedia: President Bush has done work to reduce the HIV/AIDS epidemics in Africa, stop the spread of Malaria, and rebuild broken nations from their genocidal pasts. One of the most notable programs initiated by Bush is the PEPFAR (President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief) Program, which was a commitment of $15 billion over five years (20032008) from the United States to fight the global HIV/AIDS pandemic.[41] As of September 2007, the program estimates that it has supported the provision of antiretroviral treatment to approximately 1,445,500 people, mostly in Africa. Bush has also initiated programs that have put more than 29 million of Africa's poorest children into schools[42]. Bush has provided "huge overt support" in Liberia to stabilize the country, and increasingly effective aid and trade backing good governance have helped improve health and provide education, skills, and jobs on the continent[42]. He has also supported agricultural independence in Africa, reducing Chinese mercantilism on the continent that had been overwhelming the farmers. "Beninese" cotton farmers urged him to "stand fast on his opposition to the pork-belly politics of the farm bill that is winding its disgraceful way through Congress" on his last visit to Africa. Finally, he has been steadfast in changing the Doha round of World Trade Organization talks so it will favor the poor in Africa[42]. It has been said, from Time Magazine, that Africa is the "triumph of American foreign policy" and is the "Bush Administration's greatest achievement"
And Bush did it because he cared about people not for political gain.
$15 BILLION in AIDS funding by Bush, to Africa!!!
So, Obama, did you LIE or forget?
Apparently THEY know it too! ;-)
Waiting for his retraction... Any minute now...
Bush gave more to Africa and AIDS than any leader in modern times.
That is a fact.
This man is such a liar. He lied about job creation from 2001-2009. Millions of jobs were created. He lied about funding for AIDS - Bush sunk millions into Africa. He lied about the other party refusing to work with him, when it was he and his partisan riff raff began unraveling the country in the name of socialism. All the things the libs accused Bush of doing, Obama actually does.
