Filmmaker says he's 'stumped' by image he calls 1928 cell phone

Millions of people have watched a video by a Belfast filmmaker who thinks he has discovered a "time traveler" walking and talking on a cell phone in behind-the-scenes footage of the 1928 opening of a Charlie Chaplin film.
"I was kind of stumped by what I saw," George Clarke says in his YouTube video, "I kept winding it back … and I couldn't explain this. Nobody can give me an explanation as to what it is."

He said the film appears to show a "thin black device that is held to your ear." He said the knuckles are "bent in the flat shape of a phone.""

I don’t think it is nothing. Her fingers are bent to where there is undoubtedly something there. I don’t think she is a time traveller. But what in the world it is, I don’t know.
Maybe she was using it to listen to FDR’s Fireside Chats.
Could be something like this. Why she would be holding the square part up to her ear, who knows...

Freeze the frame on a large monitor and you can clearly see that it is Helen Thomas.
the guy in the video claims it's straight off of a 1928 Charlie Caplin film, from Disk #2, in the extras portion.
lol! although, there is no appearance of a broach on her/him.
This is definitely proof of time travel. You know this because it’s on the internet. And if it’s on the internet it must be true!!!!!

This has been going around for a few days now. Someone in another thread posted a photo of what it was, a very early model of electric hearing aid.
It’s not a cell phone..it’s obviously a transistor radio...
oh yeah, deffinately. everything on the internets in true. however, what do you think it is, if anything? b.t.w. it’s actually on the DVD footage from disk #2 of the movie. according to the guy anyway.
Presumably. If anyone has that movie, in the 2 disk release...could look at disk #2 in the extras footage and confirm/deny.
If it’s a time traveler with a cell phone, I’d imagine service would be pretty spotty in 1928... Can you imagine the roaming charges alone?:)
It is pretty neat.
That space between her little finger and the next finger is awkward to copy.
It does give a new meaning to “anytime minutes”, though.
