This Is for You, Joy Behar! A Woman’s Journey from Liberal to Conservative
Somewhat Reasonable blog ^ | October 28, 2010 | Jim Lakely

Posted on 10/30/2010 8:18:32 AM PDT by seamus

Forgive the indulgence, but my wife sent me the following email today. She had to get this off her chest, in writing, to clear her mind for painting. And I think it’s a great story: One woman’s decades-long journey from indoctrinated liberal to free-thinking conservative.

These are the kind of women that Joy Behar insulted when she called Nevada Republican U.S. Senate candidate Sharron Angle “a bitch” who should “go to hell.”

Enjoy the tale of how the left pushed away a woman who was trained almost from birth to be a liberal.

In the spirit of this 2010 election season, I want to share my story of evolution into a conservative woman, in an age where that is likely to get you bitch-slapped (pardon the pun, Joy Behar) and ridiculed by your peers — or at least by the cool people, especially by fellow members of my gender. I know, isn’t being part of the sisterhood wonderful?

For some of us, I guess. For others, it feels like high school on steroids. This has made me very uncomfortable for a long time. I’ll never forget a very dear old and wise friend telling me: “You cannot be a thinking woman and not be a Democrat.” That was when I put on what I call my willful blinders. “Okay,” I thought. “I might have misgivings about that statement, but I don’t want her to call me an unthinking woman! I’ll just keep my doubts to myself.”

Of course, that was NOTHING compared to how women express that same sentiment today. (Yeah, I’m talking to you, Joy!). It just doesn’t pay to be complacent or allow for willful blindness. If more women “out” themselves as conservatives, maybe it will dilute some of this nastiness.

high school on steroids

Couldn't have said it better...

I've worked with these rabid, frothing-at-the-mouth hermaphrodites.....and one thing always stood out (besides their perpetual anger at "something")... They were never consistent with their life view... whether it be concerning morals, family, finances, etc.

Nice story but Joy BeeHaw won’t get a thing from it. These people all live in an echo chamber where the stupidest stuff becomes rational to them.

Modern feminism is simply a liberal political movement. It’s no longer about ‘women’s liberation’. And they’re still pushing the lies of ‘women making less than men for the same job’, and ‘women suffering increased domestic violence on Super Bowl Sunday’,and the MSM is still publicizing it.

Been there, done that. My awakening happened when I observed the manipulation of women during the Paula Jones saga. I was really puzzled about the Dems treatment of ALL the women who came forward about Clinton's dalliances. I kept telling my Leftist friends ‘these women are all Democrats’. The straw that broke the camel's back on that story was Carville’s assertion (about Jones) 'you can drag a $100 bill through a trailer park and see what comes out'. I also started noting the manipulation of the newspapers during Whitewater. The LATimes wrote about Clinton's lawyers and their ‘sophisticated maneuverings’ but damned Starr's attorneys using the phrase ‘desperate tactics’. I figured both sides were doing the same things. I was a feminist-lite having gone to college in the late 60’s. I started waking up to the fact that Feminists were not really for all women, they were really only for hard Left politics. I will never vote Democrat again. Phew!

I hope you read the whole thing, LaineyDee. If you like the “high school on steroids” line, there are more treats in store.

The left, especially today, give a clinic in “projection.” Everything they accuse the Tea Party folks of being, every nasty characteristic they pin on the right, is actually a reflection of themselves. It is the people on the right who are well-adjusted, tolerant, peaceful and patriotic.

Fill in the blanks for the other side ...

Great story, originalbuckeye. I think a lot of women can trace their journey away from the left to the Clinton/Jones case ... and all that followed in that mess.

Full disclosure: The post above (as I explain at Somewhat Reasonable) is written by my wife — at least the email that she fired off to me and I shared with readers. So, my wife explains that it was during the Clinton years that she started listening to my arguments with her liberal friends ... and concluded that I was often winning.

My husband was like you. I voted for Clinton the first election. I BELIEVED Hillary! on 60 Minutes. When I started waking to the Clintons’ habitual lying I was really furious. I won't be fooled again!

She rejected the opportunity to compete, earn, and feel the exhilaration and disappointment of making it on her own.

The libtard theory of economic rights also affects the productive people who will be forced to pay higher taxes to financially support the subsidized art of every beatnik poet, would be playwright, noise-composer,or non-objective artist who are failures on the free market (the artists the productive people did not support when they had the freedom to choose and the right to choose).

It is the people on the right who are well-adjusted, tolerant, peaceful and patriotic.

I've noticed whenever there's a protest and a counter-protest, and the cops make the two sides stand on opposite sides of the street, it's always evident from the photos which side is the conservative side. The conservatives are always nice-looking, nicely-dressed, normal looking, smiling people peacefully carrying American flags and signs with no profanity on them. The OTHER side, however....

“You cannot be a thinking woman and not be a Democrat.”

More like, you cannot be a thinking woman and be a Democrat. Or you cannot be a thinking person and be a Democrat.

That is what I cannot understand, I mean the way so many were taken in by Bill Clinton. Maybe it is because I grew up in the South so I was familiar with the type but he impressed me from first sight as being a typical Southern con artist, the sort you could allow yourself to like if you didn’t think but obviously someone you could NEVER trust. If he had had a different upbringing he would have been a traveling “evangelist” putting on healing shows for money. He is pure con man to the bone.

Astounding isn’t it? A loud mouthed, arrogant moron like Joyless can have fortune and fame for being just that! Only in America-—where pond scum is often sold as a precious commodity!

I will be brutally honest here. I BELIEVED Anita Hill about Clarence Thomas. I mean, weren't we baby feminists taught that women don't lie about sexual harassment? I was angry with GHWB about putting Thomas on the SCOTUS. I voted for Clinton. I woke up with the Paula Jones saga. I actually heard Hill say, I believe it was a Saturday morning GMA show, ‘well, you really have to consider his voting record’ when asked about the revelation of the Clinton/Lewinsky dalliance. My Leftist icons were falling down around me. I am sad that Ginny Thomas tried to reason with Anita Hill recently. She shouldn't have bothered. Feminists are hard core Lefties. They will NEVER come to the aid of a Conservative woman. Conservative women are to be scathed for leaving (or never being a part of to begin with) the Leftist Plantation. All the Leftist 'minority' groups are being used. Glad I realized it.

Good work on first converting your wife into a thoughtful citizen, and by extension creating more sane converts.

I know that it swims upstream against the cultural tide to be conservative. The arts, entertainment, TV, higher education, these are all hopelessly liberal and sometimes it seems all the cool people are in that club. After a few years of studying the Founders and researching the issues, all us converts begin to feel relaxed about not being in that clique. Plus it helps if you run your own business.

thanks again Seamus
