Michigan's 1st Congressional District - the second largest district in land mass east of the Mississippi River - is unique in its conservative traditions and strong family values.

Not surprisingly then, the two main party candidates for this position both display those roots in portions of their platforms. However, when one examines more closely where their history has led them, and where their dreams are pointing them, we believe GOP candidate Dan Benishek is the right man to represent our interests in Congress for the next two years.

Our district has suffered dramatically from the effects of the economic recession. No longer are ore, cement and aggregate our leading export from the region. Unfortunately, today our leading export is people.

For too long now, our region has suffered from high unemployment and industrial closings. We need to break this terrible cycle and free ourselves from the economic chains that seem to be strangling us.

The UP used to be one of the leading economic powerhouses in America.

Copper, Iron, Gold, Silver and Timber as well as some Oil. Its all here, all they need to do is allow us to go after it.

This is a prime example of what happens to an area when you let the socialist extremists rule.

UP Of Michigan suffered from Federal closure of FIA Sawyer AFB - jobs gone. State prison closures began in Michigan for example Newberry empty. - jobs gone. Mining Industry is slow, many mines closed 50s - 70s, very few open - jobs gone. Timber industry - several paper mills closed nearby - jobs gone.

Oddly enough the young people of the UP of Michigan leave for jobs elsewhere.

Elderly are the predominant population. Second homes are very popular.

medical providers are leaving because patient have the inability to pay.

Michigan needs jobs.

Hopefully the US Congress can get it together.

Voting for Benishek

you got it, and not only that, when we try to mine or bring in energy plants, we have a bunch of outsiders, The Sierra Club and other whack jobs who muck up the works and kill our chances.

Stupak cozied up to the Sierra Club for 18 years.

Votin’ for Beni!

RINO Rick Snyder is owned by the Sierra Club! I refused to vote for that worthless bastard and left the Governor slot blank on my ballot.

He will win, but without my vote!
