If it’s a rout on the east coast as the results come in, it could influence turnout in the west where the polls are still open. If this is the case, hopefully Republicans will still come out and vote even if Dems think it’s a lost cause.

Oh yes, they'll fix that problem. Since this time it's the Democrats whose ox could be gored by it . . .
'Course in any case, GOTV efforts on the West Coast might be less affected by the time zone effect when it's not a case of people really planning to vote for POTUS, with congressional races being an afterthought rather than the main event.
