A recent American Airlines flight from Miami to Boston had a sudden loss of cabin pressure, leading to frightening moments for everyone on board.
“We heard an explosion. It sounded like it was coming from outside the plane, but you could feel it internally,” said Edward Croce, a passenger.
After a perfect seven day honeymoon in Jamaica, Edward Croce and his wife Katie weren't expecting their flight home to Boston to be a nightmare.
“All of a sudden it was just this decline in the plane. It was descending really fast, really loud. Lights were going on off. Noises were going on and off. People were hysterical around us, they were crying,” said Croce.

Although it happened last night.
I read about it yesterday, I think. I think they said a hole opened up near the door and they were inspecting older 757s.
Tuesday night. Today is Friday.
The incident happened on Tuesday and was not reported until today now that the word is getting out from the terrified passengers who were on the flight.
Metal fatigue is very common on airliners. 757s are getting old.
Southwest had a 737 with a similar event in August. The airlines have to keep up with inspections or this will become more frequent.
Loud sound heard by passengers, which may or may not have been an explosion; and if an explosion, which may or may not have been caused by a bomb.
My money's on "no bomb."
So how many times has this happened before? Explosion? 2 foot hole in fuselage? Cabin decompression?
I piece of metal giving way on the skin in flight, would probably sound just like a b*mb (don't want the NSA folks after me!)
It was at 9:05 PM Tuesday night, not 9 AM. I was on the flight. The hole was above my head. The roar and vibration were so loud it was like opening all the car windows instantaneously going down the highway at 80 MPH, combined with the sound of 100 tractors at very close range. Deafening.
To which I add: Hmmm dere....
I saw a picture of this plane on FOXNEWS this am. There was a nice neat rectangular hole in the fuseloge centered above the main door. It appeared to be metal fatigue in my totally unexpert opinion. The hole appeared to be approx.(1’x2’).
Next time you’ll pay more attention to the pre flight announcements won’t you?
That one always scared me, falling 35000 feet while strapped into the chair.
FWIW, such incidents are generally referred to as “explosive decompression” for a reason.
These aircraft go through thousands of compression/ decompression cycles as they make flights. This is an example of what happens when an aluminum panel on the skin of the aircraft has worked itself loose or fatigues itself weak.
In that location the aircraft was likely never at risk, but experiencing a rapid descent to a breathable altitude of one atmosphere (meaning a high-speed descent) ... then the noise WOULD have been pretty deafening. Pretty cold too!
Once they got to a safe altitude, then it was probably another 10 minutes plus at over 180 KIAS. Seriously loud.
How can this happen/ The TSA people are “officers” now. They are screening the elderly in wheelchairs and confiscating breast milk. They get to beam radiation into you and see you naked. All of our luggage is unlocked so baggage handlers can steal out the expensive stuff.
How can an explosive get on a plane with all these Inspector Gadgets around?
