Florida Senate Race: Kendrick Meek reaffirms he's in Senate race to stay, blasts Charlie Crist

Making the rounds on several television network news shows on Friday morning, Democrat Kendrick Meek lashed out at independent Charlie Crist for fueling what he called false rumors that former President Bill Clinton had asked him to drop out of the Senate race.

``[Clinton] didn't ask me to drop out of the race,'' Meek told Fox & Friends. He said that longtime political mentor had asked him last week about ``rumors'' that he might possibly withdraw from the race.

Meek said he told Clinton that he was not going to bow out of the race. ```That's your decision,''' Meek recalled Clinton telling him during a conversation backstage at a rally in Florida.

He then slammed Crist for playing a political trick to damage his bid for the Senate.

``I don't operate like this, and the bottom line is, is that Charlie Crist does,'' Meek said. ``It's mind boggling.''

Meek said that Crist himself had called him during the campaign to urge him to leave the race.

``I told him I'm not getting out of the race,'' he said. ``I don't sell out on the people of Florida.''

Speaking on CNN's American Morning show, Meek said he shot back at Crist that ``he should consider getting out of the race.''

The controversy that erupted Thursday comes late in a Senate campaign in which polls show Meek running a distant third behind Crist and front-runner Marco Rubio.

A Quinnipiac University poll released Thursday showed Meek with only 15 percent of the vote and Gov. Charlie Crist just seven percentage points behind Rubio, with 42 percent.

The controversy erupted late Thursday when the website Politico.com reported that Clinton, while campaigning with Meek last week in Florida, had twice asked him Meek to withdraw.

Looks like Bubba is up to his usual tricks again. He did the same thing to Sestak in Pennsylvania, now he's doing it in Florida.

Few questions come to mind :

1) What is the quid pro quo provided for Meek to withdraw (the deal they offered to Sestak did not seem attractive enough).

2) Was Obummer involved at all ?

Uhhhhhhh....then how, exactly, did the subject come up?

Greta’s grilling of Crist last night put rivets in his political coffin. A despicable man, and it was plain to see after she shredded him. He didn’t even realize that his behavior in the matter was vile and repulsive. Go away Charlie.

"'That's your decision,' Meek recalled Clinton telling him . . ."

Same thing Hillary told Vince Foster.

Instead of Meek stepping down, Crist ought to do it.

He CLEARLY promised that we would not run as a third party candidate if he were to lose the primaries.

THE MAN LIED TO HIS TEETH and his candidacy is living proof of this.

No reasonable voter would trust ANYTHING he says.

There is no doubt the DNC is pushing out Meek...and if Meek was not black....they would have forceably removed him from the campaign.

All this confusion helps Crist in the long run, because the talk of Meek dropping out is going to take away some of his support

Oh I so totally agree...Crist was so repulsive with his swishy wide-eyed look, curling his lips in a slimy half smile and his continual mantra of trash talk on Rubio. I thought then, OMG, finally Crist is so over and anyone watching this would come to the same conclusion.

The ‘mantra’ you mention was the thing that was so gross. It was like listening to that goofball running against Jim DeMint, he simply could not answer a question that veered off the path of his democrat talking points. What is so apparent with people like Crist is they have no real rudder. Americans want leaders and I just don't know if we have a lot of them out there. We will see what a Republican House does, will it lead, or will it capitulate?
