The Gender Card: Hitting a Guy Where It Hurts
The Wall Street Journal ^ | 10-29-10 | MICHAEL M. PHILLIPS

It's a male politician's nightmare. You're facing a female challenger. You're lagging in the polls, but a great debate performance could redeem you.

Then, just when you think victory is within reach, your opponent hits you where it hurts. "Man up," she taunts.

How do you recover from that? It's a tough one, as Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid can attest.

It took the Nevada Democrat a week to come up with a retort after GOP challenger Sharron Angle zinged him with a "man up" during a televised debate this month. (Ultimately he settled on, "From the street to the ring to the Senate chambers, I've never had to prove my manhood to anyone.")

Reid gave about the worst answer he could, it didn't sound like a man't answer, on our side, it is Mitt Romney that will have a problem in the masculinity department, he and those lame boys of his are about as effeminate as it gets.

Mitt Romney (and my five light in the loafers, sons)

I think the MEN in this NATION need to put aside all the PC cr@p (and it IS cr@p) and collectively Man Up.

America is where it is TODAY because men have ALLOWED themselves to be manipulated by the limp-wristed Lefties, the lesbians, et al and the FemiNazis.

I WANT a strong MAN in charge of my country, my military, my GDP, etc. I want a LEADER that I both fear AND respect. 0bama does neither for me. And that goes without saying for Harry. *SPIT*

(However, I’m STILL not going to pick up his socks, LOL!)

I guess the question for me now is, will Angle’s approach...the emasculizing approach....the subtle questioning of masculinity approach...raise or lower the level of discourse in the future?

Granted, conservative women take a tremendous amount of abuse by the press and candidate lackeys. But what if Harry said that Angle was at the mercy of her hormones? Would we think it was funny? Fair? Of course not.

Male candidates heap abuse on conservative women usually by proxy. Certainly Jerry Brown’s comments on the cell phone were not intended for public consumption, but of course he meant them nonetheless. We weren’t supposed to hear it directly from him, though.

If conservative women decide to play the gender card publically, they probably need to expect their opponents will start responding more in kind. And overall, is this what we want? I’m not so sure..

The only problem with dirty harry is he couldn't find his manhood with both hands looking for them...he is a weasel.

any one that calls him on it is fine with me, even if it be a republican male. But it seems this election go around the only ones with guts and courage are the women. That happens when men refuse to take the lead.

ps I don't like capitals so for the spelling police, get over it...

With you except I don’t want to fear the leader, I want the leader to fear all of us. I don’t care if he’s my guy or the other side’s guy. Fear is respect. Problem is too many in government have no respect for the citizens who put them there.

I want a leader that has a good Christian conservative foundation that he makes decisions from. I want someone who respects the Constitution and understands the limits it places on HIM, not us. That is the kind of guy you can get behind and admire and know he’s not going to screw you over because it’s politically expedient or tactically better for his career.

It is not surprising in this world of the quick soundbite that many may think such a tactic (and that's what it is)universally effective. But any man who is a man, who daily works at being a man and meeting a mans responsibilities could, on the spot, make the utterer sorry she had invested. Of course if you happen to be an oleaginous weasel...

I'm with you; this is gender war stuff and it's beneath a good conservative's better judgement to initiate that sort of thing.
