Carl Paladino will be launching this week the final push of his campaign for governor, and The New York Sun is happy to extend its endorsement. We understand the Republican nominee is being set down as Crazy Carl by, among others, the same newspapers who, while saying they were for tax cuts and reform in Albany, endorsed Eliot Spitzer.
Much has been made by Mr. Paladinos opponents of emails he has sent or forwarded that contain off-color and racialist attempts at humor. They are as offensive to us as to anyone else. They remind us, however, of nothing so much as the private letters that were discovered to have been written by Harry Truman (about which we wrote during the 2008 presidential campaign in an editorial called How To Judge Obama). .....
Mr. Paladino strikes us we spent two hours with him last week at a small gathering in Manhattan as a man for whom such a distinction is apt. When invited to speak, he began by falling silent to formulate his thoughts. He then spoke of his father calling him over to his deathbed to apologize for being unable to leave him an inheritance of wealth. He recounted his own education and his years practicing law and his success in business. He spoke of the death, a year ago in an automobile accident, of one of his sons, and the way he formed his own commitment to make a run for public life. If he loses this or any other quest, he noted, it wont be even close to the worst thing that happened to him.

Quote: It doesnt take a double-blind study to see that Mr. Paladino is politically inexperienced and has his personal flaws. But it is also the case that he is the candidate who more clearly comprehends the catastrophe that has engulfed the state and more faithfully hews to the principles of political economy that will have to be at the center of any effort to turn it around.
Though Mr. Paladino recognizes it would be a difficult fight, he evinces the grit that will be needed to maximize that advantage. He has budget goals and a timeline of governance. He has an upstaters sympathy for those stranded by the kind of desolation that has been created by the tax-and-spend policies of the Democrats. He insists he wants but one term and intends, thereafter, to go back to his business. There is no doubt that the received wisdom is that the campaign is at a point where Mr. Paladino is going to lose no matter what happens so that the better strategy is to endorse the likely winner. Its the same thinking that got us Governor Spitzer. So we recommend a vote on the merits for Mr. Paladino.
There is a tide turning

Being on the other side of the country, I haven't been familiar with Andrew Cuomo, but the more I learn about him the scarry I think he is as an individual. He's just a ruthless bastard according to everyone in the know.
Gross looking men!!!!!!!
Nothing "liberal" about the Sun.
When did the New York Sun become liberal?
Isn't the Sun a conservative, now online only, news outlet?
Pretty sure the Sun would be expected to endorse Paladino.
I never trust a man with beady little eyes....
Paladino will tell you the truth, and sometimes the truth hurts, is that the reasoning you use in voting for Cuomo?
Who’s voting for Cuomo?
I though the SUN folded a few years back.
It is back, now, but, I think only as an online paper. I don’t think you can get it at the newsstand.
Can someone confirm this? Thanks.
Carl Paladino to be on Paul Vandenburgh’s show at around 8:30 a.m. tomorrow. You can listen online:
About 9 a.m. tomorrow he will be at the State Capitol, I think the Capitol steps. If anyone has more details, please share. Those, who can, might want to join Paladino to show their support, but check out the details first.
Talk1300 also had Joe DioGuardi on Al Roney’s show yesterday. In the debate, DioGuardi said he would vote for Paladino, of course.

3rd from the left. The angry guy. ;-)
Very well done article. It was a pleasure to read.
Spitzer looks like the guy they tie to the chair. BTW - I'm Italian, so I know a Goomba when I see one...
Paladino was on earlier than previously planned on talk1300, but he was super, and said it’s an insult to have the Cordova, which means conquest, mosque at Ground Zero.
He agrees with Gov. Paterson about laying off some of the state workers, plus we need to do more cut downs by attrition. He said he doesn’t want to hurt people but it has to be done.
Paladino said how the pollsters don’t know what they are talking about, but the media takes them too seriously, and pointed out how wrong they were about his race in the primaries.
I’m paraphrasing all this, but I think I have it right. It was a 25 minute interview, so a lot more was covered.
Talk1300’s financial guest followed, and he had nothing but positive comments on Paladino, as did the callers.

Please contact me if youre interested in being added on or taken off the Carl Paladino for Governor ping list. This looks to be a fairly high volume ping list for a while, probably until the election.
Oh you know you want them.
