I disagreed with George W. Bush. A lot. But I can say without reservation that he is a good man.
And a classy man. Obama’s been one hell of a contrast.

Think of this-
Would Bush have not visited Landstuhl hospital after he found out he was not allowed to use it as a photo oportunity for his election campaign?
Would Bush not go to the Boy Scouts 100th aniversary so he could go on the “The View” instead and pander some more?
Are you suprised he doesn’t mention Obama and doesn’t take a bunch of cheap shots at everyone in his book? It’s the difference between someone who’s a clean cut decent guy that does the best he can, and someone who just looks clean and is articulate (My cheap shot) but willing to say and do anything to get in power and hold onto it.
I’m not ticked off at Bush for that. But I am not at peace right now. I don’t see how anyone can.

Others I know that have met him have always been impressed by the sincerity of the man. On that level, being a REAL person, President George W. Bush and President Ronald Reagan are equals. I wished either was still president.

That was my first thought also upon hearing the news.
Since Reagan was for amnesty, it became a ‘conservative’ thing to do. How could anyone fault W or McCain for following in Reagan’s footsteps? The libertarians are for it. The business community is for it. The GOP strategists say we’d lose big if we are not for it. We don’t have the memory of any conservative president who took a strong stand on this issue. It is a big problem.

I agree, but like you I still love President Reagan. I think the time may come that the 2nd President Bush will be appreciated....I sure miss him! Too bad others don’t.
I agree with you 110%. I think W is by far the finest example of humanity to ever enter the White House. I greatly miss him - more so than when Reagan left (I revere Reagan). However, that does not mean his political skills were as sharp as some (although they were sharp), but no matter - he always wanted to do the right thing for the country. Unlike this president, it wasn’t about him.
A point which I often thought of back then but was surprised very few comments were made about during the last couple years of GWB’s presidency: A very large part of the “disapproval” side of the scale were people who thought Bush was too soft and willing to compromise with the democrats, too permissive about illegal immigration, too full of BS about the real nature of Islam, and far too complacent about defending himself and his administration against his avowed political enemies. I cannot recall any pollsters doing a breakdown of what constituted, “left vs. right”, his disapproval numbers and at the time I felt pretty sure that it was intentionally ignored. Admitting that Bush had significant and maybe even greater popularity problems to his right as he had to his left would not have fit the image the press, most of whom would vote Stalin into the White House if they had the chance, wanted to convey.
I’m looking forward to reading the book. I miss a man of integrity in our land’s highest office, and I believe that George W. Bush is a man of integrity and a professing Christian. But his naivity pains me—just the account of his bonding with Prince Abdullah of Saudi Arabia (and “a magical bird”?) make me sick. The Prince can trust in a magical bird, but not the Christian George W. Bush.
Plus his remark after 9/11 that Islam is a religion of peace. But I know that we Christians need time to grow in the knowledge and grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Christianity is not a religion, it’s a relationship with the one true living God, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the Maker of all—that’s the way God has revealed Himself.
And His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ said that He is the way, the truth, and the life, and that no man comes to the Father except through Him...and that we have seen the Father if we have seen the Son.
Hebrews 1:1-2 says, “God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world.”
The Father has given the Son all those who trust in Him for the forgiveness of their sins, and no one can take them out of His hands.
We are not divorced in this life from what we believe in, whether it is Christ or the devil or nothing. We will live our lives according to what we believe about God and ourselves, to put it bluntly. And we grow in what we believe, and there is an appointed end for it, says the LORD in the Scriptures.
I remember walking down the street near Santa Barbara and Ronald Reagan had just come out of the barber shop. This was before his presidency and just a couple years after Gub'ner of California. I just said, nice haircut and he told me the guy does a great job. I sometimes wish I could have had more to say but we were two strangers on the sidewalk and I'm not one to say," OH WOW YOU'RE...blah blah,"
As for the Bush book, it's Christmas shopping season right after halloween these days so I'd say this release is financial timing for selling his book, doesn't run into election nastiness. ( This for others suggesting the timeley or untimely release).
I did not vote for W in 2000. But he displayed character during the years before 2004 when I did support him.
Note the word ‘support’ as in not worship.

George W Bush is a good man and served this country well.

Add me too. I remember waving to Pres. Bush as his train pulled out of Station Square, Pittsburgh in 2000 after he had been nominated the night before in Philadelphia. Sen. Santorum was with him, but he left Bush alone on the deck at the back of the train car.
I was beside the track. Mr. Bush waved to me and I waved back. The words “Godspeed, Mr. President” came into my mind as the train pulled away westward, towards his future: the contested Florida election; the 9/11 attacks; Afghanistan; Iraq; ... and so much more...
I can still recall that moment with a lump in my throat.

All in all, I would rather have had GWB stay low until after the election.
I’d certainly prefer him over the current occupant of the White House, but he is NOT what we want on people’s minds as they contemplate punching their chad for the GOP (or perhaps more accurately, against Obama and his Administration and policies).
The GOP needs a new, non-Bush image. And it was getting one, thanks to the Tea Party. This wrenches it back. Some folks who were about to vote against the Obama agenda might now hesitate, reminded of the guy they’ve been conditioned to hate.
And now I have one in mine - thank you very much.
GWB may have had a low approval rating when he left office (many didn't like the war/conservatives didn't like the spending), but I always respected and loved him. If I were in his presence today I would call him Mr. President, not "dude".
One thing that was part of his legacy was his respect for the American people - all of them - and his love for his country.
Live long and prosper, Mr. President. We still love you.

Many are disappointed in him but to say that those who feel that way would feel more at home at Huffington Post is a ridiculous statement.
