You are correct about the missing pieces of Obama’s past history but a little more of it has come out with Kurtz and D’Souza’s recent books/writings.
Go to www.newzeal.blogspot.com and look at the over 100 Obama files and you can see who were influences on Obie. Communist Party members, former CPers, Democratic Socialists of America members, ex-SDS/Weather Underground, ex-NAM (New American Movement), Revolutionary Communist Party members/supporters, and key marxist individuals like Saul Alinsky (who Hillary also liked). These people all formed an ideological/world outlook curtain around Obama and that is the marxist environment in which he grew up and developed.
PS: I heard and met Alinsky and my notes say that he was “sleazy” but convincing, but still a marxist, class-warfare radical.
Add into the mix the Socialist Scholars Conferences at Cooper Union, Columbia, and whatever was at Occidential College, the radical groups he frequented (by his own admission), some radical professors, and you see the academic marxist influences on him.
The key question-marks in Obama’s background are just how radical is Valerie Jarrett, his top advisor (and who admitted that she had been keeping an eye on psychopathic marxist Van Jones long before he was brought into the White House as the environmental czar); David Axelrod, whose parents’ histories are largely missing from history books from that time; the possible role of Soviet agent/CPUSA member David S. Cantor, from the “hood” in Chicago, the role of Don Rose, Axelrod’s mentor, the role of WUO terrorists Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn, Rev. Jeremiah Wright and his Cuban connections, etc. And the list goes on.
Some of this is going to be found, eventually. Hopefully other information on Obama in college(s) will become public because the prevalent view today is that there has been a deliberate coverup of his past by universities, by his own omissions in his books, and from what should have been public records from his Illinois political life. Someone is going to spill the beans, and that is what the Obama-protectors fear the most.
Who is pulling his strings? It’s anyone’s guess right now, but we can definitely color them “red”.
Your are right about Obama’s mother being in Pakistan in the early 1980’s when he visited her. She was working on “microgrants” as a form of aiding Paks in building their own little businesses.
If there were any “Taliban” around, it would not be where she was. However, you probably will not hear the term Taliban used until much later in either the late 80’s or more likely the early 90’s. By then Obama’s mother was long gone from Pakistan.
Still, it is worth finding out in more detail just what she did in Pakistan, and what Barry did there, and when.
PS: I really don’t like Brezinski and as a journalist I was responsible for embarrassing him at a talk/press conference at Hopkins many years ago.

It certainly is worth finding out what they were both doing in Pak. Whether there were taliban/mujahideen where she was is pretty irrelevant, people could travei in those days. She was involved with the Ford Foundation and Geithner Sr, at least publicly, who knows what she was doing otherwise.
And what kind of passport was Barry Soebarkah using at that time, no one knows, or if they do know, they aren’t telling.

Morgan Reynolds, who served as chief economist for the US Department of Labor during 2001–2, George W. Bush’s first term, has done a little fact checking on the new Treasury Secretary:
Who is Geithner? He is a creature of the eastern banking establishment and ruling class through and through. His résumé nicely matches his actions in handing out government money and guarantees to the “right people.” Geithner’s father Peter is director of the Asia program at the Ford Foundation, a New World Order operation. Summers, of course, is currently Obama’s head of the National Economic Council. Want a solution for the financial and economic woes? Why, hire the same experts who caused the problem(s).
Geithner departed Treasury to join the International Monetary Fund and CFR in 2001–2. In October 2003 he was appointed president of the New York Fed where he subsequently arranged rescues of Bear Stearns, AIG and other well-connected,world-class losers, all in the best interest of the American people, of course.

Earlier, I reported that NYT identifies Peter Geithner, in Timothy’s wedding announcement, as the “program officer in charge of developing countries for the Ford Foundation.” This just smells to me like a spook cover. I said so back then, before I knew about the connection between Obama’s mother and Geithner’s father:

Sounds like Mr. Jones is telling us the National Security Council is run by Henry Kissinger. The NSC is the forum used by obama (was used by clintons,etc) for national security and foreign policy matters. Biden, Clinton, Geithner, Gates, Mullen, Emanuel, Summers,are listed as participants.

Those who knew Dunham well trace this back to her arrival in Hawaii after high school in Seattle.

December 28-30, 2009 — Obama’s White House Press Corps warned about asking certain questions
WMR has learned from a veteran member of the White House Press Corps that the Obama administration has made it known through White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs and other White House Communications officials that certain questions posed by the reporters who cover the White House are definitely off-limits.
On the banned list are any questions about Obama’s post-Columbia University employment with Business International Corporation (BIC), a global financial and political information company that WMR previously reported was a front for the CIA. White House Press Corps members have been quietly told that any questions related to BIC, Obama’s withheld records while he was a student at Occidental College in Los Angeles from 1979 to 1981, or his records at Columbia, are forbidden.
At the same time he was attending Occidental, Obama, using the name Barry Soetoro and an Indonesian passport issued under the same name, traveled to Pakistan during the U.S. buildup to assist the Afghan mujaheddin.
WMR has learned from informed sources in Kabul that Obama has been extremely friendly, through personal correspondence on White House letterhead, with a private military company that counts among its senior personnel a number of Afghan mujaheddin-Soviet war veterans who fought alongside the late Northern Alliance commander Ahmad Shah Masood.
The firm is also involved in counter-insurgency operations in Colombia, where Obama is building seven new military bases, and Iraq.
In 1981, Obama spent time in Jacobabad and Karachi, Pakistan, and appeared to have an older American “handler,” possibly a CIA officer. WMR previously reported that Obama also crossed the border from Pakistan and spent some time in India.
At the time of Obama’s stay in Pakistan, the country was being built up as a base for the anti-Soviet Afghan insurgency by President Carter’s National Security Adviser Zbigniew Brzezinski and later by President Reagan’s CIA director William Casey.
Obama has suspiciously refused to release his transcripts from Occidental or Columbia University and he has remained cagey about his post-Columbia employment with BIC.
The word from the White House Press Corps is that if anyone were to ask Obama about BIC or possible past CIA work, domestically or abroad, the offending reporter would see a quick pulling of the White House press credential.
The White House website states the following about openness and transparency by the Obama administration:
