No U-turn over housing benefit: Cameron refuses to back down over cap amid 'social cleansing claims'

David Cameron today defended the Government's plans to limit housing benefit, saying it was not fair for working people to see their taxes used to fund homes 'they couldn't even dream of'.

The Prime Minister dismissed reports there could be a climbdown over the proposals, telling Labour leader Ed Miliband: 'We are going forward with all the proposals we put in the spending review and in the Budget'.

Common sense! This should be next here in the US when the Dems are mowed over this election.

I have to say that Cameron is impressing me, although I had such a low opinion of him coming in that anything he did that was remotely conservative would have impressed me. I thought he was going to be the most liberal of liberal “new conservatives” but, so far, he seems serious about cutting spending. That is the conservative issue of our time and he isn’t backing down.

It’s apparantly so bad over there I am sure that if the politicians don’t clean London and other areas out, that the people will do it themselves and the last thing the govenrment wants is a citzenry taking matters into their own hands about this mess. And Britain isn’t suicidal anymore or run by Labor. Citizens these days expect results.

American conservatives should ignore the neocons for once and learn from Cameron’s willingness to take a meat axe to both domestic AND military spending. Cameron realizes that the vestiges of the British empire should be put out to pasture. We should do the same.

It’s an even more astonishing achievement by Cameron given that he had to form a government in coalition with the Liberal Democrats, many of whom are Labour defectors with strong left wing sympathies.

Lots of people over here didn’t expect the coalition to last past September, but it finally seems that the Lib Dems have learnt that thirty years of sucking up to the Loony Left hasn’t done them any favours at all.

Nick Clegg, their leader, is SUPPORTING the conservative measures and sticking it to Labour by pointing out that nearly six months after the election Labour still haven’t finished whining about the timing of the cuts (and still won’t even venture an alternative policy).

Plus, the presence of the Lib Dems in the coalition neuters the argument of the Loony Left, that the cuts aren’t necessary.

This won’t mean much to Americans, but we’re actually seeing in the UK, a return to conservative values in a way that even surpasses what Thatcher did. Even the Liberals are coming in from the cold, and throwing the concept of “the nanny state” out. With any luck the old leftists still in the Liberal Democrat party will sod off back to Labour, leaving the conservatives in both parties running the show.

The loony left is in a shambles, can’t think of anything to say, and know that they haven’t got a leg to stand on when it comes to discussing economic policy. They’re increasingly looking like can’t even organise a piss-up in a brewery.

So, what with all these public sector job cuts, maybe that’ll weed out the idiot commies from local government and they’ll start to be useful entities once more.
