That's how it worked for many of us. Unfortunately, the State (in many jurisdictions) has taken away parents' ability to teach their children about the responsible use of alcohol. As such, many young people don't experiment with alcohol until they've moved away from home and at settings (college parties) that are far from conducive environments for safe drinking.
Red Bull is normal nasty-tasting, although that doesn’t keep me from drinking it. The vodka disguises the smell.
In Singapore at the bars off the Navy base they’d give you raspberry Absolut from Thailand with local ice and the rip-off of Red Bull, made in Java. That was even worse.
Hey Cyber-niece!
How come we haven’t had any updates on you?
Cause I am in drydock, which is incredibly boring and extremely uncomfortable at the same time. So it would about me whining about work and playing D&D Encounters on Thursday nights, which doesn’t make for interesting reading.
Jeez Super Kid... I know you’re protecting the free world and all that, but take it from a middle aged nut case... coffee in the AM, and judicious Scotch in the PM...
My fault - it’s all been quick hellos, not so much general-interest data. If you see a movie, Petunia, don’t hold back!
When they go to Alaska, I’m sure we’ll learn something novel.
My brother had one of these and offered me a sip. It tasted like second-rate beer mixed with flat soda. Urghh.
Bleah. It sounds as bad as brandy and diet root beer, which I drank at an interesting dorm party in my wasted youth.
(((hugs)))
You stay safe, hon.
We’re all praying for you.
I saw Red, but had no complaints about it. Bruce Willis is in it.
Bill took a snit earlier and (among other annoyances) left the gate to the kitchen down. Frank got in the pantry and turned up with a bottle of beer in each hand, saying,”Beer? Beer! Mine, Jooose!” I gave him some champagne, as we’re celebrating the payment of a large bonus by the Place of Employment, a national ultra-low-end retail chain. Gotta love that economic disaster ...
If we go to jail for child neglect ...
In Malaysia if you looked like you were staying in the bar for a while they’d give you tiny cups of coffee between rounds. That way, I guess, you’d be awake and buy more drinks.
Junior year, hot buttered rum (tasted like Everclear with a fried chicken leg stirred in it)... woke up in a snow bank to the words "Those look like Slim's boots..."
Bruce Willis is Jerry Doyle without the good looks and acting ability.
Kidz are asking to see that owl movie and “Voyage of the Dawn Treader.” Guess they can go at some point.
The WWU kids at Thursday night D&D Encounters drink masses of them. I’d rather have PBR if I’m having third-rate alchoholic drinks.
I want to live next door to you!
The Captain, my esteemed father, 32 years in the Navy, told me never to drink anything that didn’t come in a bottle with a label I recognized from home. I had bought the brandy (Christian Brothers) at the package store on Ft. Sam Houston, and the diet root beer at the HEB. Other people were drinking some red crap they mixed up in the bathroom sink.
I had some Learning Experiences in my freshman year, but you can only get *so* drunk on cheap wine before you throw up. It’s the hard stuff that kills students.
Never been to Malaysia... had to keep up with the locals in Pittsburgh in the 70’s. That was hardcore. Interesting, but don’t recommend it.
Of course, it was still safer than Amagusto’s in the South Valley of Albuquerque... just ask Squantos.
PS: You might want to get Mom’s permission on that one. :)
The owl movie was pretty good. I read the books in middle school. Predictable, harmless. Elen and Sally would like it.
Voyage of the Dawn Treader isn’t even out yet. Neither is the new Harry Potter. I hope it’s better than the last one, which I finally saw last week. Number 6 didn’t really do the book justice, which is too bad.
