The Captain, my esteemed father, 32 years in the Navy, told me never to drink anything that didn’t come in a bottle with a label I recognized from home. I had bought the brandy (Christian Brothers) at the package store on Ft. Sam Houston, and the diet root beer at the HEB. Other people were drinking some red crap they mixed up in the bathroom sink.

I had some Learning Experiences in my freshman year, but you can only get *so* drunk on cheap wine before you throw up. It’s the hard stuff that kills students.

I was in school when Jonestown went down... we had a koolaid and grain alcohol party that almost got us expelled for "bad taste".
