VA. Man Arrested For Plotting DC Attacks

A Virginia man has been arrested for allegedly trying to help Al Qaeda plan multiple bombings around the nation's capital, according to U.S. officials.

Farooque Ahmed, 34, of Ashburn, Va., was arrested today by the FBI and charged with providing material support to terrorists and collecting information for a terrorist attack.

“It’s chilling that a man from Ashburn is accused of casing rail stations with the goal of killing as many Metro riders as possible through simultaneous bomb attacks,” said Neil MacBride, the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia. “Today’s arrest highlights ... our ability to find those seeking to harm U.S. citizens and neutralize them before they can act."

We MUST restrict all travel to/from Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Yemen, Afghanistan, Somalia. That would be the single best step to prevent foreign terrorism in the USA.

I believe also the “home grown” Muslim terror problem can eventually be strangled - IF the USA stops allowing travel and exchange for these people with their spiritual homelands.

If you delve into the story, you'll see that this was another sting, not an Al Queda plot. It just bothers me when the Government goes and and tries to recruit terrorists and helps them plot attacks, then the media makes it sound like a real plot was thwarted. Do these stings discourage other plotters or do they just make a would-be terrorist wonder about who he is dealing with and be much more careful?

. I remember back in the 90's during the heydays of the militia movement, the word on the shortwave was that militia meetings were mostly undercover Feds, all trying to recruit each other.. I just think I would feel safer if they would spend time investigating real plots rather than self-hatched ones. Perhaps they found out this guy really was trying to contact Al Queda, so they just accomodated him.
