The state of Arizona executed a convicted murderer on Tuesday night despite objections from attorneys that the state would use a non-approved drug from overseas for the lethal injection.
Just hours before Jeffrey Landrigan's death, the Supreme Court voted 5-4 to lift a stay issued by a federal judge to halt the execution.
"There is no evidence in the record to suggest that the drug obtained from a foreign source is unsafe," the Supreme Court said
Due to a U.S. shortage, the state turned to a non-FDA approved drug. It was later revealed that the source was the U.K., although the actual company that makes the drug is still unknown.
Experts argue the practice raises concerns about the effectiveness of the drug. It may also cause difficulties for executions in the 35 states that allow them, as those on death row challenge the use of drugs not approved by the feds.
"The impact could be huge," Deborah Denno, a law professor at Fordham University said.

Ournation hasn’t. A cadre of leftist lawyers and black robed dictators have.
“Landrigan was convicted of the grisly 1989 murder of Chester Dean Dyer, whom he strangled during an armed burglary after escaping from an Oklahoma jail where he had been serving another sentence for second-degree murder.”
So much for life in prison being an alternative to execution.
Odd how no one cared about the victim and whether or not the victim was worried about enough to warrent an attorney or FDA approved killing.
Was the weapon he used on his victim approved by the FDA?
They should bring back the chair. It only needs to be UL-approved, if I’m not mistaken.
Are you kidding? That s***'s addictive!
Sledge hammer...worked fine when my grandfather killed hogs!!!They did not feel a thing...or at least they never said so!!!
Aren’t bullets FDA approved? Is Electricity FDA approved? I know, animal testing, throw him to a bunch of ticked off hungry lions, if they kill him they should be FDA approved.......
Warning: possible side effects of administering this drug include DEATH.
Got a better idea. Lets go back to hanging.
There was no reason at all for the federal judiciary to be involved with this case. This was a State crime, and he was tried and convicted by a jury of his peers.
If the State of Arizona wanted to hang him with a rope, that should have been fine as well. There are currently 133 inmates on Arizona’s death row. Most of them should have been executed within weeks of their conviction.
But if whimsical federal judges have their say, none of them will ever be given their fair and just punishment. This worthless worm’s case made it to the Supreme Court of the United States, which, with one of its spiffy 5-4 decisions, ruled that the appeal was stupid.
Had just one more justice been a liberal, he would have still been alive. And it wouldn’t have mattered why, because any excuse would have sufficed. And this is just wrong.
It is a great reason for the creation of a “Second Court of the United States”, composed of 100 State judges, appointed by State legislatures. It would stand as a buffer between the circuit courts and the Supreme Court.
Its purpose would be to examine the some 8,000 cases appealed to the Supreme Court every year, to determine if these cases were within federal authority *at all*, or whether they should be returned to the State court of origin for decision.
This would put an end to activist federal judges. This would strip whimsical federal judges of their ability to horn in to State trials where there is no federal issue, though they would claim there was one.
If such a court was created, if Arizona wanted to hang, it could hang, if enough other States said hanging was not cruel or unusual. If a federal judge put a stay on an execution, it could be brought immediately to the 2nd court, where they would likely say “nonsense”, and lift the stay.
And death rows among the States that execute, would have lots of occupancy.
Take him to McDonald’s. The morbidly obese Michael Moore, a walking violation of New York’s trans fat ban, claims they’ve killed more people than the muslim murderers on 9/11.
Withholding of FDA approval doesn’t really mean too much. They have recently refused to approve a treatment for breast cancer on the basis of cost, reasoning that, if everyone couldn’t get it, then no one should have it, and many more should just die of the cancer.
An easier way is to use nitrous oxide, or laughing gas.
It is used by dentists.
Just keep increasing the percent until it is 100% and wait a half hour.
I have had nitrous oxide and it just makes you not care and sleepy. The "patient" would just go to sleep.
Well, I kind of hope it’s unsafe, given the intended use.
Why not, just to be sure, use more surefire methods? Shooting them in the brainstem or blowing them up, for instance?
just put them a soundproof room with nothing but Obama speeches on repeat and a knife , that would be lethal enough.
I don’t even know why they mess around with all this high-tech new-fangled stuff, anyway. What the hell is wrong with a good old-fashioned hanging?
Would they need to use OSHA-approved rope?
Just continuing the original joke. Honestly, you can't write jokes that are as funny as reality is sometimes.
Prolly shoulda fed him a bunch of bottles of Hyland’s Teething Tablets, they’re made in the USA! /sarc
Here liberal, liberal, liberal...
