“punish our enemies and reward our friends,”

Pure Chicago politics.

“Chicago politics” is just a distillation of “leftist ideology”.

Leftists desire to use government to punish those they disagree with them.

In Plato's Republic, Polemarchus answers Socrates' question of "What is justice?" with the answer, "to punish one's enemies and reward one's friends." This is taken as a common assumption of justice in the ancient world, and accords well with the vendetta from Italy and the blood vengeance of the Bible (Deuteronomy).

It's not only pure Chicago politics, it's pure Roman politics. Pray it's not the end of our Republic, too.
