“He also discouraged “ghetto,” “pimps and hos” and “gangsta” parties at the esteemed Evanston university. “
How is that different from any other weekend at the university?

I hope they don’t outlaw wookie costumes, or Michelle will be royally pissed.

Would this be considered offensive?

No “ghetto,” “pimps”, “ho’s”, “gangsta” or “Aunt Jemima” costumes allowed.
Snaggle tooth mountain men, illiterate rednecks, and Juan Williams costumes are approved.

If the blacks get all undie knotted because someone wears a halloween costume then they need to get a life. It's as bad as the indians getting upset about athletic mascots.

Why? (Other than the difficulty getting the makeup off?)
First, because of its association with minstrel shows and, most importantly, it could ruin your life-whether you did it for racist reasons or not. One of the NU students was dressing as Bob Marley- nothing to do with minstrel shows. But it didn't matter. It was labeled insensitive and thoughtless. As far as I know, NU did not identify the students involved. However, they could have played hardball and released their names and condemned them publicly. Ten years down the road, if one of these kids is up for a promotion at a big company or, even worse, running for political office, it might make things very uncomfortable for him if his past deed came to light.
