In addition to Zionist Conspirators points, I would add the following. Christianity historically, has in fact been a threat to the Jews. Early Christian Rome, The Crusades, The Inquisition, The European Pogroms, National Expulsions, from Britian, Poland, Spain and other European countries and finally Christian nations and "the church" who during the holocaust, could have done more to stop the Nazi's from genocide. There were also thousands that were turned their Jewish neighbors into the Nazis.
So overall, the Jewish people have had a long history of physical danger as well as the ever present taunts of "Christ killers", Blood libels, discrimination (it has only been in the last 50 years or less that Jews are allowed into private clubs and organizations)
So, do Jews just forget? No. Yes, the Evangelical Right supports Jews and that is great. But lets face it, it is because they believe A)G-d tells them to bless Israel and B) The belief the salvation of the Jews is part of their eschatology.
Another point to remember is that most of the Jews who came here were Askenazi Jews of western Europe. They were going through a reform movement in the 1800's that was much more assimilation friendly. In the Reform, they do not follow the commandments literally but as a guideline. The end result is liberalism and spiritually dead Judaism. The government should procure rights for minorities (Jews) and that other minorities should be granted rights and redistribution of wealth. Orthodox Jews are much more like their Conservative Christian counterparts.
All this aside, one omission the author makes, is that 54% of Catholics voted for Obama and 46% of Protestants. Even 25% of Evangelicals, 1 in 4, voted Obama. These groups elected Obama. Not the Jews.
G-d told us it would be this way anyway!
Ezekiel 36:19 I dispersed them among the nations, and they were scattered through the countries; I judged them according to their conduct and their actions. 20 And wherever they went among the nations they profaned my holy name, for it was said of them, 'These are the LORD's people, and yet they had to leave his land.' 21 I had concern for my holy name, which the house of Israel profaned among the nations where they had gone.
22 "Therefore say to the house of Israel, 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: It is not for your sake, O house of Israel, that I am going to do these things, but for the sake of my holy name, which you have profaned among the nations where you have gone. 23 I will show the holiness of my great name, which has been profaned among the nations, the name you have profaned among them. Then the nations will know that I am the LORD, declares the Sovereign LORD, when I show myself holy through you before their eyes.
Wonder why Jews will never fully trust anything related to the "cross?" Because throughout its history, it has been a sign/symbol of persecution and death. Now we have a new batch NT followers that say "trust us" as their forefathers did. Why should we?
Is there another reason to do or believe anything other than that "G-d tells them to?"
not me....folks who are not Christian or maybe agnostic or not socially conservative seem to really think that folks like myself only endorse Israel because we think it will get us into heaven.
...I have stated time and again even non believers should be able to see that Israel deserves our help given they share our values largely and live in a sea of crazy primitives.
the notion here that only God and a need for rapture keeps gentiles from relighting the ovens is smarmy and spoken by folks bolstering their own prejudice against believing Christians.
The only time I ever hear all this talk about how we MUST BIBLICALLY support Israel amongst my peers is here when some folks obsessed with Israel like a pampered pet say so. I support Israel and do most righties I know for the same reason we support the Western World over others....they are like us and are fighting the dark side....plus I have had a lot of personal experience there.
