For Virginia Rep. Tom Perriello, the cavalry just keeps on coming.
President Barack Obama will head to Virginia on Friday to campaign for Perriello in the waning days of his competitive reelection race against GOP state Sen. Robert Hurt. Perriello, a freshman Democrat who is seeking a second term in a conservative-leaning, Southside-area seat, will join Obama for an evening rally at the Charlottesville Pavilion.
The visit comes as six Democratic-aligned outside groups are pouring money onto the airwaves in support of Perriello. Organizations including the Service Employees International Union, the Sierra Club and the National Education Association are spending more than $1.5 million on TV ads, providing a shield from conservative outside groups, including Americans for Prosperity and American Action Network, which are targeting Perriello on the airwaves. The National Republican Congressional Committee has invested nearly $370,000 on TV spots during the final week of the race.
The outside infusion of cash amounts to something of a thank-you to Perriello, who voted for a wide array of Democratic legislation including the health care and economic stimulus bills despite occupying a seat in a district where John McCain won 51 percent of the vote.
The Virginia Democrat has campaigned as an energetic, get-it-done congressman who is unapologetic about his voting record.
But Perriello is also highlighting his differences with Obama, saying in a Tuesday statement that the president and I disagree on some issues, but we agree that America cannot return to the failed Bush-Hurt policies that brought our great nation to the brink of economic ruin. The president knows I'm an independent fighter, that I work tirelessly for this district, and that I'm interested in what we can accomplish together, rather than what divides us.

The dumb college kids are Periello’s only hope.
Bring it on...
The man just can’t help himself, he’s so self destructive it’s getting worrisome.
He said this midterm would be different because the dems had him. He was right!
George W. Bush actually gained seats in his first mid-term.
LOL! Perriello must be down big. As he goes down in flames Obama arrives to throw gasoline on him. Bwahaha!
Poor Charlottesville’s traffic will choke up for hours and hours...
