Democrat Mark Dayton has raised and spent nearly twice as much on his campaign for Minnesota governor as Republican Tom Emmer and four times as much as the Independence Party's Tom Horner.
But most of Dayton's money came from his own pocket.
Dayton has raised $4.5 million and spent $4.2 million this year, according to campaign finance reports released Tuesday. The heir to his family's department store fortune loaned his campaign $3.4 million.
Emmer had raised $2.7 million and spent $2.2 million through mid-October.
He raised $2 million in individual contributions, while Dayton collected $884,000 from individual donors.
