George Soros, the multibillionaire investor who helped bankroll three initiatives to change drug laws in California, endorsed the marijuana legalization initiative Monday and plans to make a major financial contribution to the campaign.
Soros, who invested $3 million in the medical marijuana initiative and two other measures, made his announcement in an opinion piece published online by the Wall Street Journal. "Proposition 19 already is a winner no matter what happens on election day. The mere fact of its being on the ballot has elevated and legitimized public discourse about marijuana and marijuana policy in ways I could not have imagined a year ago," Soros wrote. The article is scheduled to appear in Tuesdays print edition.
Soros, who runs a hedge fund and founded the Open Society Foundations, has not yet donated to the campaign. But Michael Vachon, an advisor to Soros, said that "he plans to make a significant contribution."
The initiative was the brainchild of Richard Lee, an Oakland medical marijuana entrepreneur who has spent at least $1.5 million to draft the measure, collect signatures to qualify it for the ballot and pay for a campaign. The wealthy donors who have helped to pay for past efforts to change Californias drug laws had largely stayed out of the campaign until the last few weeks.
Peter B. Lewis, a retired insurance company executive, recently donated $209,005 to the campaign, and George Zimmer, the founder and CEO of Mens Wearhouse, recently gave $50,000. Both businessmen supported past initiatives to change the states drug laws.

Do you think The Fuhrer would be proud of Kapo Soros???
Hmmm, I was somewhat indifferent to the initiative, but given that Soros backs it and given that he has the IQ of a worm and the morality of a Clinton, now I’m not so sure.
No doubt about why he supports it. He fully believes that an addled population is a compliant and non-threatening population when it comes to completing the drive to creating a socialist dictatorship.
FUBO
Notice that evil little man has money in the game and those weed user’s may end up regretting his support because of course he calls for taxes and it may eventually end up costing them more then on the black market.
“he has the IQ of a worm “
How many multiBillionaire worms do you know?
That being asked, Soros is a very evil man and would/will destroy America, with his Obammie puppet.
You should enjoy this thread. FReepers who see a silver lining in the collapse of America, Denial of Soros involvement, Rationalizing of Soros involvment etc.

I read this quote on another site and stole it, because it is so appropriate-—
“The media’s attitude toward people is to treat ‘em like mushrooms : keep ‘em in the dark and feed ‘em sh*t.”
soros just wants to keep them stoned.......
Turnout is going to be key, and Democrats are a bit demoralized. If the marijuana initiative is aggressively promoted, it will turn out the layabout pothead vote who would otherwise be too discouraged (and too stoned) to get to the polls. They are overwhelmingly Democrat.
It's always something.
Exactly. Marijuana is the opiate of the people, at least until Soros can legalize heroin and make opium the opiate of the people.
May I offer some more reasons:
2) NO to starve the tax beast. They want the tax money so they don’t have to cut spending.
3) NO to additional state & local government workers to deal with it.
Lets not forget that they want legalization to inflate SEIU numbers.
My idiot niece went to california to help with the harvest of “Necessary drugs needed by poor oppressed suffering people”.
Within 2 weeks she was spouting the pro union line about tax revenue, jobs, retirement benefits and legal protections. Now she’s rambling on abut subsidizing legal marijuana for the poor just because the poor have a right to get high but can’t afford it.
You have hit on his true motive! It is always about promoting left-wing tyranny... even when it sounds like freedom!
The democrat party is just following its tradition of being the party of slavery; regardless of the era.
Im against the current on this issue when it comes to freepers.
Not all marijuana smokers are “layabout potheads”. I dont smoke and havent for some years now, but I was in college before that undergoing my bachelors in chemical engineering, with a double minor in management and finance. I also went on to get my MBA. All the while I was smoking marijuana every now and then. In fact when I started smoking I stopped drinking, it was sort of an exchange. Getting tipsy and drunk is just a way to loosen up and get “high” which is the same with marijuana. Although I have never experienced any violent times when I was smoking as opposed to when I was drinking, you dont wake up in the morning and wonder how the hell you got home if you have smoked either. Its a simple hit which lasts 1 hour at most and then goes away.
Alcohol is a very big cause of death globally, from alcohol poisoning to driving drunk yet seeing all these detractors of marijuana here you would think perhaps some if not all would be for the prohibition of alcohol. Marijuana is practically not related to any deaths, you can even look it up.
If you are worried about kids starting to do it, well its a parenting issue and if children are raised properly and with values they will stray away from these things until they are older. I had opportunities to try when I was younger and never did until my 2nd year at university. In any case you would be crazy if you think alot of kids arent doing it already regardless what the law is.
Im really against the current on this, I hope I dont get bashed too harshly :)
