'Commander' Carl's Army claims a crock (Paladino vs the Post, again)
New York Post ^ | 10:44 AM, October 25, 2010 | Frederic U Dicker

Claims by Republi can Carl Paladino's campaign that he commanded 250 men at Fort Bliss, Texas, during six months of active Army service in 1971 are false, The Post has found.

Paladino's campaign manager, Michael Caputo, admitted the contentions were wrong after The Post obtained military records showing the Buffalo builder was on active duty for only three months, and was at Fort Bliss for training as a newly commissioned officer in the late summer of 1971, while the Vietnam War was raging.

Let me first make clear I can't stand Cuomo. That being said, a couple of observations:

1. If Paladino was a democrat a lot of Freepers would be screaming to tar and feather him over this, and rightly so.

2. Paladino really stepped it when he decided to make an enemy of the New York Post. Those guys are relentless.

Yep. Paladino forgot a cardinal rule of politics: never get into a war of words with people who buy ink by the barrel and newsprint by the ton.

I can’t wait for all the apologies from people who laughed at me when I said that Paladino was his own worst enemy and was in the process of self destructing.

He was the class Commander. Technically his campaign’s statement is true. Later, he became a Company Commander, as a Captain, so-again-true.
Embellishment is de rigueur in politics, just ask Gore.

Give the guy a break, he’s trying to do the impossible.

So they can find Army records from the 70’s but can’t find a birth record from the 60’s?

None of that matters. You put Cuomo in office he’ll be just like Spitzer only the girls won’t be so expensive ~ cheap tarts I believe they’re called.

Once again the media will dictate what the people need, and the people will allow the media to tell them what they need and you will have Cuomo. Just another state in line with California thats going down the toilet. You have the opportunity NY finally to make a difference and you will fold like a cheap camera because the elite and the media knows whats best for you, your to stupid to know

He was the class Commander.

Class Commander doesn't mean squat, and he knows it. I say that as a former Class Commander of an Infantry Officers' Advanced Course Class. I thank him for his service, but trying to embellish short term active duty as an Air Defense Officer in 1971 is more than phony, its disgusting. I hate it when politicians try to pretend that they are something that they are not. This guy got a commission, probably as an alternative to the draft, went through training as required, and served in the reserve components which allowed him to avoid two to four years of active duty that might have involved a tour of duty in a combat zone. Nothing wrong with what he did, but trying to fool an ignorant electorate is as low as it gets.

He's dead meat in the political world.

Palladino is a diamond in the rough and a capable businessman.

Cuomo is a second generation political mobster.

I’ll take Palladino, thanks.

When I was a kid I commanded whole army divisions. Of course they were those little army toys. I also had tanks, half tracks, jeeps, howitzers, lots of army stuff.

What I don't get is why people need to say they were something they were not, especially when it's so easy to check.

I had a collection of English made ‘Dinky Toys’. Unfortunately, I allowed a younger cousin to play with them for a month while I was moving into a new apartment with my mother and the cousin destroyed them with rocks and firecrakers! One Centurion tank was like six bucks back then (I’m 65). As a kid playing army, I always dreamed of having a ‘tommy gun’. A few years ago I had the opportunity to heft one with a fully loaded thirty round mag attached. Those suckers were very front heavy! Made me appreciate my little Rockola carbine all the more.

You can’t trust Fred Dicker. I have posted a link from an eyewitness that had lunch with Dicker and knows he has Cuomo on speed dial. Last summer. If anyone wants the link I can find it again and post it. Dicker is a liar and carries water for Cuomo.

Dicker is a liar and carries water for Cuomo.

He's a pro-union, pro-Albany Democrat, and has always been so. I don't understand why our usually discriminating Freepers fail to see past the thin camouflage of the NYP he's wearing.

I don't doubt Palladino has rough edges, a salesman's hype, and a big mouth. But between him and the incompetent, abortion-loving scion of a mob family, who is largely responsible for the crash of the U.S. economy (he threatened the banks with criminal prosecution if they didn't loan to ACORN's utterly unqualified clients), there is simply no comparison.

Carl made his military rank sound more important than it was? That's like saying he has bad breath. I don't care. I'm not his girlfriend. We're trying to save New York State here.

I'm not even sure that's right. He may not have.

Cuomo's new attack ad goes after a campaign worker that had a DUI 20 years ago and another for unpaid taxes that he has receipts for. They lie.

Response from Paladino's campaign.

With Week Before Election Day, Charges Start To Fly

If Andrew Cuomo had taken a few years out of his political career to serve in the military, he would know Fred Dicker’s article today is just another amateur hit job. Of course he put out the contract with Dicker to get it done, and in doing so maligned all veterans in New York.

Captain Carl Paladino trained 250 basic training troops a year, most years, during his service to our nation in the United States Army Reserves. As a First Lieutenant on active duty, he was commander of his Army unit. Andrew Cuomo and Fred Dicker just don’t understand the military and the hundreds of thousands of veterans in this State who are offended by their disdain for military service.

As for flack Vlasto’s complete ignorance of Army basic training, if he had served our nation instead of jumping right into the Albany cesspool he would remember the funky smells of a boot camp barracks. I sure do. And, as the new troops cleaned up their act, you could sleep without Mentholatum applied to your upper lip to hide the smell.

Not even Mentholatum would mask the stink at Cuomo headquarters.

When you work in the gutter with Dicker to malign a veteran’s service to this nation, it can backfire. Fred Dicker and his bosses at the Cuomo campaign can’t Blumenthal-ize Carl Paladino, who served his country with honor and told the truth about serving ten years in the Army at an age when Andrew was already a career Albany politician running dirty campaigns.”

yeah! let’s all vote for cuomo now!

I love you Fred Dicker for pointing out a ‘technicality’ that saved us from Paladino. Technically the base commander is really only in charge.. so - cuomo’s the democrat for me now!

Did you guys at the NY Times also find out if his dog is registered yet? Then I would REALLY REALLY REALLY want to make sure Cuomo won. And I would do it or Fred Dicker and all those other liberal media who have the courage to point out these ‘facts’ for me.

Thank you NY Times- I am so glad there is nothing in cuomo’s past for you to look into. I bet HE never even owned a dog. He only caused the $800 billion dollar housing melt down, but he NEVER EVER was even in the military!
